Yep, honestly, I'm an American. My dad was 3/4 American Indian and my Mom had Irish and Dutch (allegedly). I don't care about any of that, you will never hear me say anything other than, "I'm American".

Now, if he can't prove his country of birth, then there should be an investigation.

Recently, there were 8-9 women who worked for the federal financial aid office who were indicted for violating privacy laws. Supposedly, they looked at his financial aid applications prior to the election and he did apply for foreign student aid status.

IDK if that is all true or not...I just wish more people would allow the word American be enough of to tell who they are.

I'm curious, could you prove your country of birth any more than Barack Obama? Is the burden of proof really on him just because of allegations many of them proven to be false?

One question I have that IMO would shut these people up - wasn't he issued a Social Security number/card at birth?

That is the only thing I can think of aside from my birth certificate that is a government document proving my birth.

I would still want him to be president/finish his term even if (which I REALLY doubt) he was not born in the US.

P.S. This issue wasn't even brought up in earlier races because the opposition thought it was too stupid and would backfire. ;-)

Yes, I can prove my country of birth. I have certified copy of my birth certifcate, I still have a home in my in my "home town" and the nurse that was in the delivery room (and was the 2nd person to touch me) is still the office manager for a GP there. Plus, there's the whole issue of living there for more than 40 years.

I would think that every canditate would have the burden to prove all elements of elegibility prior to seeking the presidency.

Not trying to get in the debate. I was going to say we all should have medical records somewhere. Howver even then if a facility has closed the records might not have been maintained.

Obama has a certified copy of his Birth certificate. We've all seen it. http://msgboard.snopes.com/politics/graphics/birth.jpg. Plenty of people (myself included) have completely lost touch with their hometown, (whatever that means :dunno:). It sounds to like the notion of burden of proof in this case is variable among the people of this country. By my measure he has satisfied it. I like many people don't have an original copy of my birth certificate. The certified copy I obtain from the bureau of vital statistics is taken as definitive proof. Obama has one of these, so the burden is certainly not on him.

What if it is proved that Mr. Obama is not an American by birth, how will that make you feel?

I guess we'd have to deport him seeing as he wouldn't be a citizen. It would be difficult for him to run our country with the White House in Kenya, but I'm sure it could be worked out with lots of teleconferecing and Tweets and stuff.

I agree, like you, if the powers that be are accepting that as proof then I don't see what all of the bickering is about. Like I said before, I'm not for or against the video, I'm was interested in the conversation.

Time to go make sell BBQ ;-)

I understood your position. It's like a lot of things that could be true, but there's just not anything substantial to indicate it. I could have forged my high school and college diplomas and may have been born in Antarctica, but I have sufficient evidence this is not the case. I don't feel any burden over this.

I did't post this because I'm a "Birther" or anything, I posted it simply for conversation. At this point, even if he got not national TV and broadcast from the oval office in the dialect of his heritage that he wasn't elegible to be president, nothing could be done. .........................

This isn't worthy of "conversation" on this message board, IMO. It is bad enough to have false smear e-mails sent around.

scooterbug provided a SNOPES link - that should have taken care of any ?discussion?.

from Snopes:

* Article was dated April 1,2009 (APRIL FOOL?S DAY)
* There was no such group as ?Americans for Freedom of Information? at the time the article was circulating.
* Obama didn?t attend Occidental College under the name Soetoro.
* Fulbright scholarships for foreign students, coordinated through the American Indonesian Exchange Foundation does NOT fund undergraduate study in the US.
* No major UK paper published a front-page article ?Obama Eligibility Questioned?
* Donofrio?s lawsuit was DENIED.
* US Justice Foundation has no report of an ?investigation of Obama?s campaign spending? and the referenced Gary Kreep said the e-mail was a HOAX.

Well, Rita, first and foremost, as long as it's civil, I believe we can talk about whatever we like. I did post it in the lounge.

Secondly, I had not seen the Snopes article prior to posting and I did agree that it was a good read. But just because you feel the conversation needed to be over after that response doesn't mean it is so. It was okay for LS and I to finish our exchange whether you agreed with either of us or not.
