South Bay Lumber of Santa Rosa Beach, Fla., and Navarre Lumber of Navarre, Fla., are the first two companies of
Fulcrum Building Group, which is described as a new, multi-brand operator of pro-focused lumberyards in the Florida Panhandle. And Fulcrum is looking to make more acquisitions.
Silver Canyon Group, a San Diego, Calif.-based private equity investment firm, formed Fulcrum Building Group to acquire a majority interest in South Bay Lumber Navarre Lumber July 1. The owners of South Bay, brothers John and Jay Pugh, and owner of Navarre, Bobby Killingsworth, are significant owners of Fulcrum and each business will continue to operate under its current management structure and brand name.
Bobby Killingsworth, President of Fulcrum Building Group & Founding Member – 30+ years of lumber and building materials distribution experience. Bobby founded Navarre Lumber in 1990 and has served as President since that time. Bobby and his family have also been active in property development and management in the Navarre, FL area for over 50 years. He graduated from the University of West Florida in 1984.
John Pugh, Executive Vice President of Fulcrum Building Group & Founding Member – John brings over 30 years of building products experience to the group. John and his brother, Jay Pugh, acquired South Bay Ace Hardware, Lumber & Paint in April 2000. Since the acquisition, sales have increased four-fold. Prior to acquiring South Bay, John was sales manager for T.R. Miller Mill Co., Brewton, AL, a regional lumber mill, from 1996-2000. Previous to that position John worked for Louisiana Pacific Corp. from 1989 to 1996 in various roles including sawmill operator, shipping & logistics supervisor, lumber sales, and operations manager for six sawmills. John graduated from Auburn University in 1989 with BA in Speech Communications.
Jay Pugh, President of South Bay Lumber & Founding Member – Jay started his professional career in the dental sector, but changed direction in 1988 when he went to work for Louisiana Pacific at their Athens, GA OSB plant as a purchasing agent. Continuing in the building supply industry, in 1996 he accepted a position with Great Southern Wood Preserve doing inside treated lumber sales for the southern territory. In April 2000, Jay purchased South Bay Ace Hardware, Lumber & Paint with his brother, John Pugh.
