Its funny, how many things my kids and grandkids will never experience (pay phones, BW TVs, LP records, etc..) This list is pretty long.

I'll be we all have a lot of interesting cultural tidbits from the past that are now gone forever.

Here's one from my childhood in eastern NC. We used to ride a ferry called "Streets Ferry" to get across the Neuse River from New Bern to Vanceboro.

Does anyone remember the ferry similar to the photo above that went from near Peach Creek to Bunker. How far back was that?

Mine will never know what it's like to have 100's of acres to roam around on, or be gone all day playing when Mom hasn't got a clue where they are for hours. Those were the days.

Typewriters, phone booths, tuna casserole with potato chips on top, suitcases without wheels, waiting several days for a roll of film to be developed, eating three meals a day at home prepared by their parents, cars with no seatbelts, having someone else pump your gas, Mom wearing a dress at home, wearing a hat and gloves to church, to name a few.

The Bunker ferry.....!! Former County Commissioner Freddy Bishop operated the ferry at the time it was shut down. How no one was killed by the cable that went up to guide the ferry I don't know?

A certain person drove two vehicles off of it while intoxicated, a truck and a lincoln. He also drove his bulldozer into his private man made pond! That was back in the mid 80's. I dated a guy that lived in Bunker and had a friend at Sunset Point. When her house burned down...it burned down. Firetruck got there when it was over. Boyfriends trailer burned down too. It was a wild place back in the day. Piss someone off and burn, baby burn.

You guys are all depressing - except for the few things BR and Bob mentioned those things do still exist - you just have to know where to find them! (Hint - not at Wal-mart!)
did you see the new cell phone with the built in projector?

Ok do y'all mean your children in particular will not experience these things or all children.

Most all of what you have mentioned does still exist, as Scooterbug said, so yes children still experience these things.

Some of these things are not commonplace but I can't think of any that are totally gone.
