Thanks for bumping up this thread :D

And THANKS for the rec on "Water for Elephants" - wonderful and fancy that Reese will star as Marlena. I can TOTALLY see her in that role.

Heads up on another book coming to a cinema near you and that's "The Dive" one of my favorite books! It is the true story of "love and obsession" - the story of freediver Pipin Ferreras and you will be on the edge of your seat with this book. FASCINATING and of course any book dealing with water - is a summer MUST.

Here's link:

James Cameron is said to be the one directing the movie. Let me know if you read it.

I am currently reading "The Bounty" and I can scrap everything I thought I knew about the mutiny - because this is the real research.

USATODAY.com - You had Capt. Bligh all wrong, Mr. Christian

Thanks for all the book tips - many are now on my list :D

Ellizabeth Street by Laurie Fabiano has four and one half stars on Amazon. I read this book and recommend it. Here's what Tom Brokaw had to say about it:

"Elizabeth Street is a great read, a fascinating account of the Italian immigrant experience at the turn of the century that is at once inspiring and terrifying. Before there was The Godfather, there was the Black Hand - and Laurie Fabiano has turned her family's experience into a riveting tale." ?Tom Brokaw

I'm in the middle of reading 'Operation Mincemeat' by Ben Macintyre. It is about British intelligence during World War II. It has quite a cast of characters, Ian Fleming, for one. It reads like a good story and, for me, it's a page turner.

Bump. I just read Zeitoun (pronounced "zay-TOON"). In about five hours. At first I thought it would be a book about NOLA (which I love as a Tulane alumnae) and Katrina, but it's much more than that. It’s really about ethnic/racial/religious profiling, part of the diversity theme for next year at the institution where I teach.

Next I plan to read Water for Elephants which I never got around to reading. But I want to read it before I see the movie starring one of my favorite actresses, Reese Witherspoon.

You may want to watch this first before you decide to see the film since it is being boycotted due to alleged animal abuse. There is a video of it.
