don't shoot the messenger

I did not promote Heliocare as being used by itself, just stated its SPF equivalency. Of course, you need to use it with a broad-spectrum sunblock.

Aspirin is a photosensitizer and should be taken only after too much sun exposure, not before-hand. Its anti-oxidant effect is minimal. I have seen many people with horrible sunburns from taking preemptive NSAID's.

Dr. Hauschka products are not too good. The Neutrogena products are much better and cost less.

Again, if you want accurate information on UV protection, seek the advice of a dermatologist; not health food store nuts.

BTW, if skunkape is a doctor and not a dermatologist; he/she knows very little about the skin. The average physician has 2 days in 4 years worth of medical school curriculum on dermatology and maybe only 5 minutes of that is on UV protection.

Be careful applying crushed aspirin to the skin, if applied at high concentrations it could lead to chemical burns. It is an acid after all. The 2% neutragena wash is both safe and effective.

The only vitamin the sun helps create is vitamin D; which requires very brief exposures in the FL sun OR you can get it from both milk and multivitamins.

Yes and no. Aspirin is touted as a wonder drug, and it really is in the sense that it does so many things that are beneficial for people-anti-inflammatory, anti-pyretic, anti-oxidant, anti-coagulant and some evidence even suggests a role in preventing colon cancer! For most people a daily dose is perfectly safe, especially if it is an 81mg baby aspirin. However, aspirin and other NSAIDs do have the potential to irritate the lining of the stomach and could even lead to an ulcer. With that said, millions of your fellow Americans pop a baby aspirin daily without any untoward effect. This drug is not for everyone (people with peptic ulcers or children with fever) but for the vast majority it is a dirt cheap versatile remedy!
Aspirin is even prescribed for women with infertility problems! I was having miscarriages, and my infertility doctor, Hilton Kort, tested my blood and discovered that I have a high level of antiphospholipid antibodies. However, I had to stop taking aspirin after a few months because of the gastric discomfort it gave me.

Just depends on what types of products you go for. Totally understand. I end up using Weleda more than anything. Similar to Dr. Hauschka, but even cleaner.

Today, I noticed a spray-on sunblock, by Neutragena, which promoted that it was made with "Helioplex(TM)." Googling it, I found an article from Men's Journal on sunblocks, in which they listed HelioCare pills, and the following is noted below the photo of the product:

Heliocare
Oral supplement, made from fern extract, gives low-level protection. Used with a topical sunscreen, you're well-covered.

I love it when people criticize doctors for their possible lack of knowledge ........ then dispense medical advice! :funn:

Hey, I just wanted to see if you would come to the aid of 'health food store nuts'. C'mon, there is blood in the water...:rotfl:

I am a health food store nut that researches the hell outta whatever I have in my cabinets. :D The product I used is about 65%-70% organic, from what I can tell just eyeballing it. I know nothing about that product y'all are talking about, except what y'all have said. Like I said in another thread, I am not great at pill popping, so adding another one to forget is just a waste of money for me.

BTW, I'd go with up-ing my dose of EFAs (not pill form) to help offset my sun exposure (plus sunscreen), but I don't screw around with my kids. They still get the sunscreen on when headed out to the beach.
