Just wanted everybody to know about the passing of Susan Foster. Susan was a real pioneer for the arts in South Walton and just an excellent human all around. She died suddenly, her friend Willa thinks it was a blood clot , on Sunday night. My mom saw her on Saturday and said she was in good spirits and that her hair was growing back after the chemo. They laughed about it being curly! I can not say how important her encouragement was to me. I would never have started Avalon Photo without her pushing me to take a chance. I wish I were half the photographer she was. I will miss her.

Willa told me the date, but I guess I was in shock and did not pay attention. I do remember that it will be held at Santa Rosa Beach Community Church with a reception to follow. All are invited to share their "Susan" stories. I will find out when it is.

Memorial Service information

Memorial services for Susan will be on July 12 at 10:00 am at the Santa Rosa Beach Community Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Susan Foster Scholarship Fund.

Susan was an amazing person, kind and giving. I remember her frame gallery next to the Old Grayton Store (now Red Bar) and the dog mural. Also the Grayton Beach Fine Art Fest, when it was just beginning...then went to Eden gardens. She really stirred up the arts in our community and what a great job she did!!! My heart goes out to Willa, friends and family, as well as prayers. We'll miss Susan.

I covered that first Grayton Art Fest for the newspaper, I am glad to still have a copy of the insert mag that I produced all by myself. Lots of great pics... Those were the days. I wish I had some of Susan's landscapes, maybe they will be available somehow. I wonder where all the negs are. Grayton is still nice- but it was never the same for me after Susan left post Hurricane Opal.
