Sweaters for Chickens

Apparently in Britain they are trying to shut down giant egg-laying factories and are "rescuing" the chickens and keeping them as pets.

Due to the stress & conditions of being a factory layer many of the chickens have lost their feathers and are quite susceptible to the vagaries of the environment - so people are knitting them clothes to keep them warm while their feathers grow back. So far they have rescues over 5,750 chickens and given sweaters to 1,500 of them!

Both Papa Scooterbug and I had a slightly different solution (it involved feeding hungry poor people), but this is hilarious!

Sc'bug - call that lady in Chipley and hook her up with your Mom! This lady has ceramic or plastic ducks in her front yard, complete with baby ducks trailing and she makes clothes for them! If rain is coming, she puts slickers on them. At Easter, they'll have on bonnets, July 4th, red, white and blue (you get the picture) - she's a scream~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I'm sure there are many who think it's tacky. But, she is a sweet elderly lady who takes great pride in how her yard looks.......the ducks are cute. It's not the ducks so much as it's her creativity with those ducks.....it's a whole family now. She probably doesn't have grandchildren small enough to sew for any longer.

Tacky? Who cares! ;-)
