I remember that year. It was NYE. We did it too. I had to soak my feet in a hot bath for an hour or before I was able to walk again it was so cold.
Although, I have to say that was the coolest thing I ever saw with my telescope, Orion Nebula in second place. (cept for some reason it doesn't look like skunkys tar with my telescope  Think Nasa will let us borrow theirs?)

why not :dunno: we're paying for it....

SkUnk: gorgeous nebula. why haven't I ever seen it?[/QUOTE]

My telescope is on the way, hope to get a good view the next few nights. I am sure you can get a nice view from your property by using simple binoculars. The nebula is located as noted below:

What kind of telescope did you get Skunky? You'll really love the nebula with a tele. You'll see the gaseous clouds. Won't be colorful like your tar, but certainly spectacular. I can gaze at that all night.

No, I already have one, it is just making it down to SOWAL. It is a Meade. It is awesome; my fave so far is Saturn, you can clearly see the rings with enough resolution to discern the individual bands. I am pumped to give sky gazing a shot on the bay with my scope. I was out there last week with binoculars and random scanning of the heavens blew my mind...:D

Was Saturn alot closer to us a few years ago? Mr OL is the astronomer in this family. ;-) My SIL let us borrow her Meade for a while and during that time we saw Saturn. It was the most amazing thing I have ever seen. The rings were so kewl!
