I dont know why Katherine doesnt connect with me. She's gorgeous, probably the best female singer, a good performer, the whole package. Maybe she's just not as much my thing, a bit polished, like Celine Dion. I wish her well though.

Taylor is so much the real deal for me. He is steeped in authentic southern roots, and lives music. I'm such a fan. His pre-Idol CD has some *great* songs on it too.

I think he's great too. Laid back and definitely southern. He's a good entertainer but I think the hair bugged me from the beginning (isn't that terrible?) but my inclination was that he was older. I thought in his fourties at first. Now, it's like his trademark. They were talking somewhere about his stylists wanting to dye it. I hope he doesn't. It's growing on me. Did you see his little boy with gray already? Wow!

It occurs to me that I am really pulling for underdog Elliott too. He doesn't get much press. He sings great, and just comes off so lovably vulnerable. Seems like someone I'd be good friends with. I hope he continues to grow and stays til the final four at least.

Cork, I like Katharine too, but for some reason, she doesn't get mentioned much:dunno: I think she's really pretty, and sings great, but I don't see her winning either--heck, I don't know WHO will win..and I'm too tired to ponder this tonite!
Like Katie Blue says, I, too, don't connect with Katharine, even though she is talented, beautiful, and can sing very well. I liken her to the Acura NSX, which most car critics say is too refined -- handles too well, brakes too well, speed is fast, etc. -- you hardly know that driving such a muscle car is a challenge. Honda motorcycles (racing) tend to get the same reviews. Some people just like to feel the slight jar when shifting gears, and the raw and rough burst of power. Those raw voices of Taylor, the big girl, and the young girl, who sings and performs like a 45 year old Sista, are the ones with character that I remember and want to hear more of. Perfection in a voice has no character. For the same reason, I like Taylor's little itchy/quirky motions with his hand and head. I like to see him move around. Picture Ray Charles or Stevie Wonder without a head swagger -- that motion magnifies their soul for the song.:D

Interesting perspective  You might be on the money. People like the underdog and like to see the little guy beat the odds. If this is true, then Taylor probably is the favorite. He's very likable and quite good. When I consider who I'd like to see while chilling out in a park, it's definitely him. Better resign myself to the fact that Katharine may not make it to the end. Shame because she is perfection, especially for one her age. Actually, I've likened Taylor to Joe Cocker the way he dances :rotfl:

While you and I may enjoy Taylor's music, we won't by as many albums as the teenie boppers will of their favorite artist of the week. The winner will appeal to the teenie boppers, not us Thirty-Somethings;-). I can almost guarantee you.

Test question -- Did you vote for any of the contestants? I didn't think so. Neither did I. The teenie boppers will not vote for Taylor because he will remind them of a father like figure. Let's face it, they are looking for a teen star with this show. Perhaps Simon should spin off another show with a focus on adult singers.

Actually last year I was at my place in Tarpon and watching with my parents. My mom started repetetively calling in votes for her favorite which I didn't think was fair. Once was enough. So I picked up my 2 cell phones and put them on speed dial and kept redialing just to offset her votes. :rotfl: But you're right, I'm not that into it. If my presidential votes are any indication, whoever I vote for will lose anyway :rotfl:

So then you're thinking it's one the hunky young guys? Don't know. They're clearly not the best. How bout Rubin? He got the underdog votes. Maybe the oldtimers (30 somethings :rotfl: :funn: ) will kick in towards the end to make sure that justice prevails.

Exactly my sentiments. Katharine, Taylor and Paris. Mandisa has a powerful voice but I just don't see her winning? All of the judges seemed a bit grouchy tonight but I'm sure they were right. Too Far, why are we the only ones that like Katharine? Could it be she's from Tampa and we're biased. I just think she's so comfortable and really connects. :dunno:

Hey Cork, I dunno. What Katie Blue said does make some sense -- she is a little controlled, and doesn't have that sparkling personality that some of the others do. But she is beautiful as well as a beautiful singer. I thinks she will be a finalist, but who's to say?

BTW, the Tampa girl was Melissa McGee. Not my favorite by a long shot. Would not have voted for her even though she was from Tampa. I don't know where Katharine is from. This is neither here nor there but Katharine (with two a's) is my very favorite girl's name, shared by two women I very much admire (Hepburn and Graham) and so that is probably one reason she resonates with me.
