If democrats had any respect for the Constitution, they wouldn't put the power to change it in the hands of judges, nor would they pass legislation that restricts people's rights in order to enforce a moral sense of fairness. FYI, your party has displayed far less respect for that document over the years than any republican administration or congress I've known.

Where do you get your rose colored glasses?

Judges do not change the Constitution, they make rulings of law based on their interpretation of the Constitution. Sometimes those interpretations may be in the same frame of thought as you and sometimes not. I'm betting we couldn't agree on a certain ruling back in 2000?

As for restricting rights I'll refer you back to the Patriot Act. Further, it's going to get very interesting over the next 30 years as we currently have the most conservative court in this country's history.

The issue at hand though is the actual attempted attack.

So who's to blame? Obama, since he was on watch during the attack or the person who implemented the program that oversees airline security?

Right here!

Activist judges (and the democrats who usually nominate them) often claim they have the right to reinterpret the Constitution. The Hughes and Warren courts are excellent examples.

I don't know of any American citizen who has had their rights restricted due to the Patriot Act, do you? (I'm not implying I supported the entire bill by asking that, but I think you might be misinterpreting the changes it made.)

You mean constructionist or literalist correct? FYI, "conservative" judges are your friend if, to quote LuciferSam, you "embrace the Constitution".

Also, FYI, the current court is not the most "conservative" court in our country's history.

I honestly don't know if anyone is to blame for this particular attack, I don't even know if mistakes were made. I do think this serves as a unfortunate reminder to liberals who were thinking Al Qaeda would suddenly stop hating America simply because we elected "The One" to office. (Who, incidentally, spent the day of the attack playing golf.)

Wow, I didn't see the news until this morning! Now we have even tighter rules whilst paying passenger on aircraft!

Pity.

I am pleased the bad engineering overtook the situation.

From what I have read, the father of the terrorist reported that his son dropped out of school in Dubai and moved to Yemen, which concerned him and he told authorities, and the son was put on a general watch list. However, there was nothing else about the guy that would put him on any list other than that general watch list, since dropping out of school and moving to Yemen was probably a lot less troublesome than most of the other cats that are on these lists.

It sounds like the big error was security at the airport.

I'm amazed this guy made it through AMS undetected. They have tight security and really good screening. Apparently none of that worked. From what I've read, the only thing that saved 300 people's lives was bad engineering.
No, according to my local paper/AP that airport has long been an issue due to the number of people on the no-fly list who go through there ........... and that fact that while they do have the technology to detect something like this, they only have it at 10 of the 200 screening points.

Don't understand how the new knee-jerk rule of making international passengers sit in their seats w/ nothing on their laps for the last hour of their flight prevents this...............or the rule that you can only have one carry-on on an int'l flight. Did that 2nd rule not already exist? :dunno:

Per the article, the body scanning machines they have at Amsterdam and the millimeter wave technology they are using in the US would have found it.

We have the technology to detect it, just not the money to IMPLEMENT it everywhere.

The sooner we got over the mindset that it's just poor people who live in caves who hates us, the better we will be. Just one example would be that the Saudis have spent billions building schools/mosques in other countries and bringing the best and brightest to Saudi Arabia for education/indoctrination. And they aren't starting the school day by singing the "I love America song".

I still don't understand why someone whose well respected father was so concerned he went to both the US embassy and his own country's security forces to report his concerns was not flagged for additional security.

I get flagged all the time for far less (last minute purchase, no luggage, one way fare) - and it might have prevented the incident.
