When are yours coming back? We got a phone call last night from Alex saying we didn't need to drive to his dorm to collect him. Say what??? When we drove him to college, our Dodge Durango was loaded to the gunnels with mountains of his stuff! We could hardly see out the windows. We were dumfounded that he didn't need return service. What did he do with all his belongings? We even asked if his friend--the one who's giving him a lift home--had a U-Haul (seriously!).

Turns out college has been a great educator. The kid threw out most of his clothing (so he wouldn't have to wash it) and gave the rest of his stuff away. Presumably to kids whose parents were coming to fetch them, presumably with big SUVs to load up.

This is going to be interesting, living all summer with a kid who's gone "minimalist." Or maybe Alex is just gearing up for a big shopping trip for "new" stuff??? You know, out with the old and in with the new?

Stay tuned!

Ok. Can I give you some advice Mermy?

He's not going to want a curfew this summer. He's been off doing his own thing for almost a year. When I came home for my first Christmas it was horrible. My mom tried to control what I did, ect. Not cool. It made for a horrible horrible 3 weeks at home. I spent every summer that I wasn't in summer school at the beach so I didn't have to deal with it. And she STILL whines and moans when I go to the 'ham or the beach for that matter and come in late- and I'm 26!!! So this is just my "been there, done that" advice from the "other" side. ;-) You're a super chill, cool momaid though- so you probably already know this!

That's a classic Mermy! Steven found a laundry service this year that "folds your laundry so nicely"!!!. Mine gets home next Friday...driving home in his car with a friend. His last final is Friday morning. Then he leaves the following Wednesday for his 5 week Summer Abroad in IRELAND!!! Don't you wish you could be him when you grow up??? I jsut realized I am getting ready to hear the words that I fear most....
What's for dinner? :eek:

FYI..I am 44 and my daddy still worries about me coming in late when I am at his house!!! I don't think that ever ends.

No, it sure doesn't! I dread late nights even more than Miss Kitty dreads "What's for dinner." I sleep lightly until the kids get in even though they tell me it's dumb. I can't help myself. I actually slept better than I did in years when Alex went off to college and I didn't have to worry about what time in the AM he stumbled in. ;-)

Kimmi, I'll try to control myself with being motherly but man o man that kid is going to hear it from me this summer if he doesn't get a J - O - B. I swear that boy of mine could give you a run for the money in regard to the credit card bills he racks up. That's gotta stop. :bang:

If he has turned minimalist, maybe his credit card bills will also diminish?

::sigh::
My kid isn't coming home!
He did graduate. :cool:
He's working at a summer camp in France all summer, then going straight to Madison for grad school.
<sniff>
I almost miss the laundry and the "what's for dinner?"
We are going to try to see him the last few days of our trip, but he might not be able to get away from his job.
heh
Good advice from Kimmi.
I don't miss that part of the migration home. ;-)

Cil, I bet we all have college sons and daughters you can borrow if it gets too sad for you. :funn:

So, kimmi...kids should be able to come home from college (paid for by their parents) to live in their home (paid for by their parents) and not have any respect for their parents? :dunno:
