As long as you're 10-15' above sea level, underground power lines just make so much more sense.

Good point. And wind damage mitigation for vulnerable infrastructure makes even more sense. Underground powerlines are not susceptible to wind damage.

Word on that. We're all underground here, and my neighborhood never lost power, phone, or cable during Ivan or Dennis. (even though we got some hard flickers during Ivan) I think we were the 2% of the county that kept electricity throughout it all.
Oh this is just so true! Have you all noticed how aggressive and belligerent the Canadians have been lately?

their government's tolerance and mollifying culture aside, i certainly won't allow that as a rationalization to excuse big businesses' clear cutting in our area.
besides, i agree with the other posters that the real issue is why didn't they install underground power?
