Seriously I coulda died. I would probably react like this dude too. Once when I was cleaning the table after dinner I touched my dad's plate that had some hot pepper juice on it and then I rubbed my eye. Oh that hurt bad so I can relate. I really can't understand why people torture themselves by eating these and other hot peppers. Nutty. It's not pretty sitting across the table from someone that is sweating through their dinner.

I'll never forget the last time we went to the UK and my BIL and SIL took us to their favorite Indian restaurant. My sister-in-law mistakenly thought the hot pepper in her food was just another vegetable and she ate it. You should have seen the poor thing suffer through that! She was trying so hard to be polite, when all she wanted to do was jump up and down and scream like a banshee. Her face turned bright red, her eyes watered and she looked like she was going to die.

Other than that she said the rest of her meal was pretty good. :yikes:

Home grown Jabaneros are even more so brutal. I had to pick them with gloves on when I grew them one year just for fun.
Then we had a contest for those that thought they could handle it. You literally could not bite in them. Even small cut pieces when you smelled them sent your eyes watering.

I did read somewhere taking a piece of bread will help absorb the bite, so if that ever happens, grab a piece of bread and fast!

Great story, Mermaid. Substitute my Mother for your SIL and you have my last experience eating Mexican with the parents. Hilarious.....after all the eye watering and coughing had subsided.

Another similiar family story.....Mrs. ATJ went on a girls' trip to Vegas that included her aunt. Auntie sampled guacamole for the first time  at one of the venerable Vegas buffets and loved it so she decided to have some more at another buffet a couple of nights later. Sadly for her, she discovered after shoveling an entire spoonful of green "stuff" into her mouth that WASABI looked somewhat similar to guacamole! :yikes: The resulting seizure-esque physical reaaction had casino and hotel staff coming from all directions. :rotfl: :rotfl:
