Our new housekeeper told me about Mr. Clean Magic Eraser, which can be purchased in any grocery market. It is a white sponge that, when dampened, will remove virtually any marks from your walls without leaving smudges...crayon and pencil marks, scuffs from suitcases or other things dragged against your walls. I cannot tell you how often I have had walls repainted due to such marks and the new housekeeper tells me this product is the ticket. Being at the bottom rung in the domestic goddess hierarchy, I was skeptical. But purchased a box of the miracle cure and it is incredible. Husband's big laugh of the week is any discovery by moi of a household cleaning product, but he's not exactly Handyman Hal himself. You can find Mr. Clean in many places other than a blue toilet bowl. :D

You might check out a book called Talking Dirty With the Queen of Clean. Lots of good tips;love the vinegar and baking soda in the drain trick :clap_1:

Let's not get carried away here. I will not be reading a book about housekeeping. You are talking to a woman whose only complaints about Lasik surgery to improve the eyesight were:

(1) Immediate side effect was a greater accumulation of dust in the surgical patient's home. (Solution = Dimmer lights, more candles.)

(2) Immediately following the surgery, one's body develops all kinds of freckles, spots, and fine lines that were never there before. :dunno:
(Solution = Dimmer lights, more candles.)

Hilarious! :lolabove:

But my mother in law says she LOVES this product - says it works on everything.
It figures, dosen't it, that a MIL is the one who tells you about a cleaning product!! Good grief!

Love it! :rotfl:

The Magic Erasers are awesome for saving paint jobs. Really, touch ups almost never work unless you have dead flat paint and you are using the exact same can of paint you used to paint the wall originally. As Donna pointed out the Magic Erasers remove the scuffs and other yucky marks not easily removed with a paper towel.

However, they are slightly abrasive so they work best on flat or eggshell paint. Never try them on anything even somewhat glossy because it will mar the finish.

I also usually bring a Miracle Cloth to the house with me when I come, though I forgot this time. Those are the microfiber rags from the Solutions Catalog, and believe me they work. They really grab the dirt and work pretty well on walls for smudges and for dirt and fingerprints on doors and trim. They are nonabrasive also and can be used on anything.

I am not a big cleaning person myself, but I hate it when things start to look worn and ratty, and these are two of my best fixes.

Michigan but someday in SoWal as well
Magic eraser is great, but I agree that you have to be careful and test it on the paint. It can be abrasive and leave marks (we learned this first-hand).

Swiffer dusters are fantastic and easy to use as well for dusting things like blinds and other small places especially.

I use Miracle Eraser on almost everything - makes your sneakers look new again - plus great on soap scum - getting black marks off woodwork.
