Somethings just can't be right for any reason and this one is one of those. I lost a love one so I can't participate in this discussion so I am out of here!
Grammy,I respect your generation,my father was of yours,I would love to hear your thoughts.
I only thanked someone for telling me about another thread about said subject.I do not agree with the people that think ground zero is just a piece of land....it is not,it is sacred.I am sorry for your loss.

My sister worked at the WTC, and she was fortunate enough to walk away from that day. She ended up having to go back and work on site during the demolition project; I just hope she isn't one of the people who have long term health effects from it.

And despite it all, she's grown to have a fair amount of affection for the parts of the Middle East that aren't anti-American, and actually looks forward to work trips that take her to Lebannon or Jordan or the UAE.

If you actually research the subject (or read the thread others have posted for you several times if you are too lazy) you would find that the actual topic and details vary quite a bit from what you think.

The mayor and other groups are supporting the building of a 13 story cultural center & prayer space 2 blocks away from the ground zero site - and while some of us may initially question the location chosen, it goes against everything our country stands for to pick and choose which religions can build where.

The building will not be visible from Ground Zero and is not on a main approach to it, so it is unlikely visitors passing by who are not aware of what it is or specifically visiting it would go there - they would just think it is an office building.

Note I said office building - because that is what this will look like. No giant minarets, no "offensive" Islamic imagery, just a mixed use building.

A new Islamic cultural center and prayer space in a neighborhood that already contains at least one mosque - that is not flag pooping and disrespect, that is the reality of the American melting pot ..........that contains 5-7 million Muslims.

Yes, and I think part of the controversy is that the existing building applied for historic building status in 1987 (?maybe) and it has never been granted. With this granted, the building would have to always be maintained and/or restored to its original design and architecture. So, when this religious group stepped in with their proposal another group stepped up this 23 year old application for historical status. And, the bickering started.

It's very sensitive for both sides. Glad I don't have to make this decision, but I lean toward the Constitution.....as always.....and, rely on my faith.

The radical Islamist Iman behind this proposed mosque is a supporter of terrorism. They want us dead. This is NOT about religion. All of this insipid political correctness yak yak yakking is going to get people killed.

Edgy Grammy, so sorry to read you lost a loved one at the tragedy of September 11th. Ground Zero should not be reviled with a monument where we all lost fellow Americans.

Thankers have increased from four to eight since EG called attention to it & now include: AlphaCrab (Today), Arkiehawg (Today), Geo (Today), LuciferSam (Today), poppy (Today), Rita (Today), scooterbug44 (Today), ugabuga (Today). That's way more thanks than most post ever get.

The terrorists have achieved their aim if by their terrible act they cause us to abandon the principles in our American Constitution. By their actions, they have caused a lot of Americans to be OK with the idea that we should restrict religious freedom for Muslims, let the gov't monitor our bank accounts, emails, phone calls & the books we check out at the library. Osama Bin Laden must be laughing in his cave!
