As far as Geo's assertion that it is part of the Republican party, I think he is wrong. I will readily admit that it is closer to the Republican party due to its ideals and goals but will maintain it encourages all with the ideals and goals it expresses to join them. It is probably the most "unevil" political force in the nation today.

Andy, I really am attempting to keep an open mind. But as I keep digging I arrive at the same place-

It seems the members of the TP movement are Republicans, the TP candidates are Republicans, the TP needs the Republican Party and the Republican Party needs the TP.

Just calling it like I see it, you saying you readily admit that the TP is closer to the Republican party than the Democratic party is like saying that Grayton Beach is closer to Destin than is the Jersey Shore.

Geo:

I am a Republican and have been one for years. I am a Republican because of the two choices their platform fits my views closest. I am for less government, less taxes and more freedom. I also believe in America first as regards foreign policy.
That said no one was more disappointed or more critical of what GW Bush and the Republican congress did to this country from 2001-2009. The out of control spending, increased government, inefficent wars and most of all the abomination that was called TARP all were the antithesis of my idea of core Republican beliefs. The damage done was incalculable. Too many people sold their souls to the "compassionate conservatives" simply because they gave lip service to being pro-life and pro-family.
So people who believe in less government, more freedom were discouraged and angry because both the Democrat and Republican parties had become big government advocates. Fiscal conservatives were left with NO VOICE in national politics. Enter the tea parties. These grassroot organizations rose up to give a voice to people who were disenfranchised.
So as we approached the 2010 elections the question was what to do to give voice to the concerns of fiscal conservatives. The democrat party is a lost cause, a third party was attractive but offered little hope of effecting meaningful change. That left taking over the Republican party. While the last 10 years have been a major disappointment and the Republican party establishment is democrat lite, this is the party of Reagan and Goldwater and gives fiscal conservatives the best shot to promote our views. So basically a hostile takeover is in progress. We will see how it goes.
As to 2012, if the Republican party cannot be returned to its conservative roots a 3rd party might again be an option. Doing nothing is not an option because we as a nation are headed for a fiscal disaster if things are not changed immediately.

I for one think the Republican party NEEDS tearing up. All they have done in the last 10 years is promote the same big government ideas as the Democrats. We need a voice, not an echo.
how do you win elections without moderates?

How do you turn a country around by electing the same ole same ole. "Moderate" Republicans started this current disaster and Obama and the Democrats have doubled down on their mistakes. Insanity is doing the same things over and over and expecting different results.
many moderates didn't drink the weapons of mass destruction bug juice. the moderates did not push through upper level income tax cuts. even two face mccain opposed them. the economy has imploded through the collapse of lending. there's no quick fix. outrage over the debt is not a viable policy when two thirds of the budget is "hands off" transfer payments and the economy is dead in the water with high unemployment. we are going to be sitting in this for quite awhile, and everyone will point the finger away from themselves. iconic ronny reagan more than doubled the national debt after carter, and young dummie bush did the same after clinton. what a wonderful legacy to stew in.

I guess we should just throw up our hands and run for the hills:sarc:

Right here!
WASHINGTON ? It seems the ultimate thumb in the eye: that Glenn Beck would summon the Tea Party faithful to a rally on the anniversary of the March on Washington, and address them from the very place where the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his ?I have a dream? speech 47 years ago. After all, the Tea Party and its critics have been facing off for months over accusations of racism.

But many of the busloads of Tea Party activists expected in Washington this weekend do not see any irony or offense. In fact, they have come to see the Tea Party as the aggrieved ? its loosely affiliated members unfairly characterized, even persecuted, as extremists.

Tea Party - All Hat No Cattle

One of the alleged aims of the TP is lower spending and there is even a link to the Republican House sponsored "You Cut" initiative on the local TP web site.

Every week, I guess, the top choice as selected by the people would be proposed.

Of course, this turned out to be a callow stunt.

According the conservative Cato Institute if EVERY cut were enacted (and that wasn't part of the deal) the total amount would be .017% or .00017 of the federal budget.

?YouCut? Spending by 0.017% | Cato @ Liberty

I get fiscal responsibility and Americans need some tough love.

Three major programs are responsible for are largely responsible for the projected growth in spending.

Medicare and Medicaid have been growing faster than revenues or the ecomony for some time.

Social Security will be the same shape in the near future.

We should CUT the sound bites, gimmicks and scapegoats plus we have to realize that tough, difficult choices must be made.

It ain't rocket science.

And the local Patriot website only lists Republican primary winners (some with exclamation points!!!!)

Results of the Poll and Survery for the upcoming primary.
For Governor - Rick Scott with 72% of the vote!
For US Senator - Marco Rubio with 92% of the vote
For US Representative District 2 - Barbara Olschner with 31% of the vote
For State Senator District 2 - Mike Hill with 86% of the vote
For Attorney General - Holly Benson with 44% of the Vote
For County Commissioner District 4 - Sara Comander with 75% of the vote
For Circuit Judge - Mike LAwson with 33% of the vote
For School Board District 2 - Faye R. Leddon with 67% of the vote
For School Board Dstrict 3 - Sharon Byrd Roberts with 78% of the vote
For School Board District 5- Dennis Wallace with 64% of the vote.

I also found this interesting- the Tea Party Patriot's view of the UN:

This Week In History The United Nations Moves In
It was 60 years ago this Saturday, on Aug. 21, 1950, that the advocates of one-world government and defenders of murderous tyrannies and corrupt dictators got the world headquarters they had sought for nearly a century. The United Nations moved into its new home along the East River in New York City on land donated by the Rockefeller family.
Few remember (and of course history books never mention) that the first Secretary General of the U.N. was the communist spy and convicted traitor Alger Hiss. The pantheon of perfidy committed by this monstrous organization is too vast to describe here. Suffice it to say there has never been an anti-communist leader the organization has not despised and tried to destroy, nor a pro-communist despot, dictator or mass murderer (the three are frequently the same) that it has not applauded and appeased.
Yes, the U.N. serves the cause of "peace"?so long as the word "peace" is understood to mean "the elimination of all opposition to a socialist dictatorship."
?Chip Wood
Do you think it is time for the United States to relieve its self from the U.N?
