Pope Condoms AIDS

I hear this news last night and was stunned by it's negative potential.

What say you?

He is right when he says condoms will not solve the problem of HIV transmission.

He is wrong when he says condoms will worsen the problem.

One need not look to sub-Saharan Africa to see how effective condom distribution programs to high risk populations might be. There is some pretty damning evidence in Washington,DC that condoms (even free ones) are not the solution.

well, its not a new idea coming from the Church. he's trying to get the church's message of abstinence to the people of Africa - the fastest growing number of Catholics.

no - passing out condoms isn't the answer to aids. it just seems like the wrong time and the wrong place to talk about condoms - I mean come on. he could have sent a stronger, more positive message of faith out to the people of africa without bringing up the subject of condoms - the people are dying for goodness sake. I think people know the church's view on passing out condoms. but I think he should be more sensitive to the culture, the massive epidemic in Africa and the necessity of prevention. His own priests and nuns working in Africa know that any preventive measure, including condoms, is absolutely necessary.

It seems Pope Benny needs to try a little more sensitivity. He need not change his views or position. But, let's have some common sense. he is highly educated - and should realize that the answer is never that simple.

I am not surprised, but I am saddened that this is how it was addressed.

A large part of the problem with the spread of AIDS in Africa is how women are treated/regarded and the public perception about the disease.

I respect the Pope, am not Catholic and wonder how he has so much influence. I have great compassion for the congregants of the Catholic church as their beliefs are their beliefs.....and, I went to a Catholic school.

However, according to Nostradamus, the Papacy will expire either one or two Popes after this one (and, in a relatively short period of time)......then what?

Medically speaking, condoms do help prevent the spread of AIDS. The Pope is not an MD and I don't think qualified to make such statements. Abstinence does work better than condoms. Africa has one of the highest rates of AIDS (if not the highest) in the world. It will take more than condoms to stop the spread there, like education, human respect and self-respect.

I think the WHO (and, America as well as other countries) has made strides in assisting with this situation in Africa, but there remains a long way to go.

I recall one of the popes saying that artifical birth control blocks the procreative process hence is a sin. The only allowed means of birth control was the rhythm method.

Know what they call couples who use the rhythm method?

Parents.

I have to call BS here. Nostradamus said no such thing. Those who continue to make a buck or two off of him may have, but Nostradamus didn't. Nostradamus and modern psychics/seers should be used for entertainment purposes only, not viewed as viable sources of information.
