When buying a computer, keep green computing in mind. Here is a link to a paper that was presented at a meeting of the Association for Computing Machinery that I recently attended.

http://www.csc.villanova.edu/~tway/publications/talebiSIGCSE09.pdf

The authors of the paper said at the meeting that Dell is the greenest. The paper they wrote also discusses power management techniques and how that can lead to greener computing.

Here you go Miss Kitty, this one should take a beating and keep on ticking.

Dell Latitude?„? XFR D630

Niiiiiiiiiice! I usually sit out in the pouring rain and sowal. :D Oliver at Beast Buy told us to wait until summer...the Windows 7 operating system is coming out sometime in the next year and if you buy one starting in the summer, you get a free upgrade. :dunno: Basically, he talked us out of buying the Dell we were looking at. Now, Lester, over with the $$$ Apples told us to buy one of his, immediately....I think it was a set up. I don't trust Mr. K.

It may be a little difficult to find an XP notebook but they are out there. Not sure if HP offers them but Dell and Toshiba do and I believe Lenovo as well.

BTW, link is to latest notebook reliability ratings. Asus and Lenovo are tied for the top spot.

Microsoft has extended downgrade rights on computers with Vista Business until next year. From what I am reading they come with Vista installed and with XP Pro restore media. HP is the first to get the deal extension.
