Army discharges gay officer.

Lt. Dan Choi, a 2003 West Point graduate who is fluent in Arabic, was an infantry platoon leader, serving with his unit in Iraq in 2006 and 2007.

He was not discharged for a homosexual act, but for violating the Army's Don't Ask Don't Tell (DADT) policy; for openly declaring his homosexual orientation.

He says he wants to serve his country.

Is it time to change DADT?

Of course it is absolutely time to change it!! I write my representatives frequently about this. We should honor people like Lt. Dan Choi are willing to serve our country.

Yes, it is stupid and all of the arguments against it have been disproved (are the same ones used against integrating the military).

Embarrassing that we have such a rule.

Good thread about it somewhere on here.

It does seem kind of 20th century at this point (particularly with an all volunteer military.)
