My sister is coming in to town tomorrow and I really need to get the house visitor clean. My son says, "She already knows us, we don't need to make a good first impression."
So do I go with that and just leave it "kids out of school for the summer clean" :dunno: or do I spend the rest of the day and into tomorrow scrubbing and dusting and organizing?

Go to the beach early, take a cooler full of whatever & a cell phone. Tell the kids to call you when she arrives. If she thinks the house needs cleaning she'll clean it before you get home-----------or if she gets there early, invite her to come on down to the beach and bring a refill for the cooler.:rotfl:

Dear Sister,

If you wish to have cutesy soups and fancy folded towels please check into a hotel. Otherwise when you step on a stray Lego remember that it's free of charge.

Sincerely,

Abused beach house owner.

Buy a big bottle of her favorite booze and mixers, put them on the dining room table, and write "Welcome Sis!!" in the dust--after a few belts, neither of you will care.

While sisters can be the harshest critics....remember that she grew up with you and likely knows ALL of your bad habits! Clean the toilet and tub, clean sheets on the bed and let yourself off the hook!

You have that one straight. As long as the bathroom isn't gross and the bed sheets are fresh, you'll be okay. Of course if you don't want her to visit all that frequently, you can forgo any advice you get on this forum. ;-)

This is all great advice. Especially the bottle on the table and the note in the dust.
I forgot to mention that 1) she lives in Sarasota on the beach and 2) she is driving here to bring back my daughter and pick up my son so I feel a bit obligated to make this visit worthwhile for her. We got the top layer of chaos cleared anyway. Usually I take off work the first day of school, send them on their way and spend the morning scrubbing and organizing and then spend the second half mountain biking. She just caught us in the middle.
We are definitely going to ply her with some fine beverages and dining at Pizza Bar and Bud and Alley's. She's a single woman who gets to live in a perfect house all of the time so a couple of days here in with the troops will just make her appreciate home all the more.

When she falls asleep, draw a little mustache on her face with permanent marker. I promise the condition of your home will never come up in her stay. :D
