Tourist Development Tax collection showed a 15.47% decrease in South Walton for September 2024 compared with the previous year. Total collections for September 2024 in South Walton were $3,817,821.46. Looking at FY24 collections in the SW taxing district, we wrapped the year at $60,046,194.11, ahead of FY23 collections of $60,016,660.35.



The Tourist Development Tax, or bed tax, is a 5% tax collected on hotels, condos, and other short-term rentals south of Choctawhatchee Bay. It is the best way to gauge visitation and demand trends in South Walton. The revenue supports tourism marketing and beach operations efforts, including cleaning and maintaining beaches, employing lifeguards, destination improvements, and preservation initiatives.



Tourist Development Tax collection on short-term rental accommodations north of the Choctawhatchee Bay totaled $26,936.42 for September 2024. Collections for September represent a 5.89% decrease, or $1,119.52 compared with the previous year. For the NW taxing district, FY24 collections totaled $377,660.57, well ahead of $267,348.90 in FY23.

As of Nov. 1, the number of active rental units in South Walton was 19,386 and North Walton was 813 for a total of 20,199.
