Is Harry's still around? I never went to DFM:eek: shame on me!!!!!!

Harry's!! Brings back such fond memories of one of my favorite Georgia shopping destinations. My daughter Fyl--now 17--knew how to say "Harry" before she knew how to say "Mama." Can you tell we LOVE our specialty grocery stores??? :rotfl:

I have no idea of whether Harry's is still around. Do you know the one from Alpharetta or Marietta?

I understand we're getting several Trader Joes in ATL. Rumor has it one in Buckhead and possibly one in Poncey-Highland (yeah!) where the old Harry's/Market One used to be. But these locations are still just hearsay, dont quote me yet. Oh, Atlanta's becoming a Real City after all!

That's the way it worked when Trader Joe's came to Indianapolis. First one store then another. You will love this grocery!

I'm glad you said Atlanta's becoming a Real City. I've been waiting for a long time for that! :clap_1:

Oh, me too. Suddenly we have walking communities, bike paths, revitalized downtown and warehouse districts, and some of the very best restaurants in the US, certainly as far as ethnic foods go.

We moved 'OTP' as they call it (Outside the Perimeter) about 7 years ago. Since then Atlanta really got its act together. We're thinking about moving back in. (Traffic isn't a problem when you live in town, because you rarely travel *to* the burbs..) And now we're getting Trader Joes too!

That's right. The AJC said they could not confirm the locations, but that it is rumored that they'll be in Midtown, Sandy Springs, and other areas.

To answer Allifunn, there are still a few Harry's left, although most of them have changed their names to Whole Foods who bought them out.

KB, I knew you'd know what I meant about waiting for Atlanta to turn into a Real City. I grew up in and around prominent Eastern seaboard cities like NYC, Boston, and Philadelphia, and Atlanta was a crashing disappointment when we moved there. Now that it's changing, Merman and I are changing our minds about retiring  on the East coast. Atlanta, I think, might do beautifully for us. :clap_1: Especially if it has TJs!

Mermaid, I can see why you're reconsidering. Traffic woes aside, ATL just seems to be getting better and better every day. We consider leaving from time to time--but then remember how cheap and convenient it is to travel from here, the good food, the great weather, plenty of tech jobs, a music scene..a pretty easy drive to SoWal. And now, featuring actual amenities and attractions...what a concept. Lots going for it as a city, really. Boring place to visit, decent place to live if you don't have to commute to the northside.

There, you have it in a nutshell. I've already decided that if we go back to Atlanta, it has to be where the public transportation is. I've sat in enough Atlanta traffic jams to last a lifetime, and I never want to do it again. I'd love to trade in two cars for one, and rely on MARTA for the rest. I did it in Boston and Philly and it never killed me. :clap_1:
