Heard that John. Saw a guy try to hide it when he threw his butt in to the sand on Sat. So I calmy pointed out that there's a trash can 50 ft away and if possible to please use it in the future.

:clap_1: ... way to go!

I always take a bag to pick up trash every time I go to the beach and I've been doing it since Seaside was just a wide spot in the road.

In the beginning I'd pick up some butts, an odd piece of fishing line and maybe a can. Every year that passes it just gets worse--my bag filled up more each time in a shorter distance. Now along with the "trash" we've got broken and tossed toys, balls, tents and chairs.

Maybe we have more people who learn to pick up the trash at the beach--but these aren't the folks who threw it there....I've given up hope long ago that people will learn never to toss it down in the first place.

I know what you mean. My pickup time increased every year until last Summer I spent most of my beach time picking up trash, and after a couple of months I got very frustrated. Add to that having to dodge chairs, umbrellas, tents, coolers, holes, and hundreds of plastic toys and it got the better of me. And then I would look up and there would be another group of people walking through the dunes. :sosad:

After my daily pickings in October and April, I don't think I can even imagine what summer must be like. :sosad:

It?s not just the beaches. I stopped the other day to admire the beautiful flowers in the park area at WaterColor and this woman drove by and threw her half-smoked cigarette quite close to where I was standing. I wish I had the guts to pick it up and throw it right back at her in her shiny, new SUV.

You can do it, Lois. The next time you do, please let us know so that we can applaud your actions. :D I like the way you think. :clap_1:

Perhaps A Nice Add Campaign Of Giving Out Small Trash Bags To Visiting Children. Make It A Game...clean Up The Beach. Have A Couple Of Businesses Donate A Soda Or Something For Every Full Bag The Child Collects. Mom And Dad Have To Bring The Kid In For The Soda, So There's A Potential Sale And Whoever's Business Is On The Bag Will Look Like They Are Really Doing Their Part. Too Bad I Don't Have A Business Or I Would Do It Myself. Hint Hint. Even If It's Not Really Beach Trash, At Least It's In A Bag Now. Howsabout A Free Draught Beer For Every Cup Of Cig Butts You Collect? I'd Just Walk Around Picking Up Cigbutts And Drinking All Day. Smoke Up!

I really like this link. The overall feeling is do something about it!!!!! We all have to become active instead of sitting around talking about it. Turn off the TV and get active!!! Think Globally but act locally. I have recently been involved with a Panhandle Chapter of Surfrider. We are having our 1st Annual Beach Clean up Saturday June 17th, 9:00am at the Crab Trap on Old Hwy 98. I hope some of you all can make it out. We will be doing a bunch of these at various locations but wanted to start our first one where there is ample parking. Please come help protect our greatest resource. Also check out or join the Panhandle Chapter @ www.surfrider.org

Thanks,
Bobby J

Ya know, she can be charged with a criminal act for doing that because it can lead to wildfires, especially with as dry as it's been the last couple of months. I want to say it's a misdemeanor, but Jeb! was on tv a couple weeks back saying it could also be a felony charge.

How about posting some trashy beach photos?....before you pick up. I think a visual is worth a thousand words. It will give people viewing this site an idea of what not to do.

I would have walked over there and given them a piece of my mind.

i however, being of either sterner, or stupider stuff, have done just that before - they simply denied it was 'their' trash and said the place we were at had someone on staff that was paid to pick it up! silly me!

perhaps its time to get the tdc to purchase a king and solve the problem - and pay for it by renting it out to the other beaches - all hail the king
