My husband and I were in Seacrest Beach on Tues/Weds/Thurs last week. We had some throat irritation and minor coughing on Tues/Weds, but it was not bad enough to keep us off the beach. On Tues, the water looked a little murky in the afternoon - so we stayed out of it. The water was back to clear and beautiful on Weds/Thurs. Rumor had it that when the wind blows from the north - conditions are better.

Also, FYI, I was stung by jellyfish 3x on Thursday, but compared to a bee sting, it was not bad at all. All irritation from the sting was gone in 30 minutes. I just treated it by rubbing the area with sand while still in the water.

And, the dog flies were not too bad. They didn't even land on me when I had Australian Gold sunscreen on. They were annoying my husband who was sitting right next to me, until he put the sunscreen on. So, we concluded that was a good repellant.

But, I did scream and jump up on the couch when a palmetto bug ran out from under it.

I will take a day at your beach with red tide, jellyfish, dog flies and big bugs over a day in NE Ohio anytime. Hopefully, that is encouraging to future visitors.

We just returned from four days at Seaside--the weather was glorious, and the water was mostly warm. But the Redtide could, at times, be so bothersome as to make us (confirmed beach people) leave the beach. It really depends on which way the wind is blowing (indeed, at times walking around Seaside, I still coughed.) But the good doctor's remedy worked for me--I had Claritin packed anyway (Memphis sinus issues are legendary)--and made a run to Publix last night for more. I wound up taking it twice a day. I'm sensitive to irritants anyway, and I coughed like the old fashioned TB patients my history of medicine colleagues write about. Claritin plus Advil worked for me.
It was a little alarming to see the water--lots of dead fish and tons of dead jellyfish (little jellyfish)...still, four days at the beach was the most wonderful break I've had in months, regardless of redtide or any other "marine pest".
