My husband and I were in Seacrest Beach on Tues/Weds/Thurs last week. We had some throat irritation and minor coughing on Tues/Weds, but it was not bad enough to keep us off the beach. On Tues, the water looked a little murky in the afternoon - so we stayed out of it. The water was back to clear and beautiful on Weds/Thurs. Rumor had it that when the wind blows from the north - conditions are better.
Also, FYI, I was stung by jellyfish 3x on Thursday, but compared to a bee sting, it was not bad at all. All irritation from the sting was gone in 30 minutes. I just treated it by rubbing the area with sand while still in the water.
And, the dog flies were not too bad. They didn't even land on me when I had Australian Gold sunscreen on. They were annoying my husband who was sitting right next to me, until he put the sunscreen on. So, we concluded that was a good repellant.
But, I did scream and jump up on the couch when a palmetto bug ran out from under it.
I will take a day at your beach with red tide, jellyfish, dog flies and big bugs over a day in NE Ohio anytime. Hopefully, that is encouraging to future visitors.
