Try McQuires for prime rib

I have enjoyed eating there a few times. All my visists were quite good except for the prime rib on a Sunday which was just ok, but most are just ok except for what you make at home and serve immediately. It was my fault to think that a hunk of cooked beef can be kept at peak freshness for hours.

Try McQuires for prime rib. It can't be beat, IMO.

They have the best steak straight up too, imho. My mom kept trying to get me to go there and I was all "No way am I going to an Irish pub for a steak!" I apologized profusely after I got enlightened. Best onion soup too usually, if you can get them to brown the cheese some. One can get a piece of junk meat anywhere occasionally, but Maguires consistenly puts out a great product I have had only one so-so steak there out of dozens of visits..

...had a 'Prime Rib malfunction' at McQuires 2 weeks ago--a visitor ordered Medium and it came out dry-grey (returned it and it took "ages" to get an "it's fine" replacement); the beef in the beef/mushroom pie was tough but diner decided to chew their way through it since it "tasted petty good." Fish & Chips were unremarkable. Maybe hit it on an off night--haven't eaten there in a long, long time, but the beer is great; I've concluded the food quality is waning--still may return, but only for the beer.

I'm a bit concerned as to how the inflation in food products will affect the restaurants going forward. Inflation and the recession are serious considerations for the restaurant owners...they need to keep a delicate balance between the quality and price of their offerings in order to retain clientele. If they error on one side or the other they won't be in business when the economy finally does turn around.

McGuire's has always seemed to cycle through periods of wowza good, and periods when it seems pretty average. It's all a matter of who's managing the place in a given quarter, it seems.

I love McGuire's filet. Maybe I have been lucky, but I am always amazed at the consistent quality of their filet -- always prepared as ordered. I'll keep my fingers crossed that the quality is not waning and that maybe they were having a bad night on the night that Shelly dined. I must admit that I never order anything but the filet when I go to McGuire's.
