What's the big, huge deal? How is this such an affront to one's dignity?

It's well documented that there are people out there trying to do serious, deadly harm to us.

Uhmmm...it's a joke. I find them funny regardless of all the stories.

Have a cup of java and enjoy the day. No need to be so tightly wound up...

It's also well documented that things like this are a waste of time and the scanners don't work very well.

My concern is that we continue to spend time, attention, and $$$ on things that are not core security issues.

Why would I need to hide stuff on/in my person when I'm allowed multiple carry-on bags that get 1/5 of the attention/scrutiny or when I can buy most of the "banned" checkpoint items in the airport shops? :dunno:

People are Fed-exing bombs and trying to plant them in dogs and we are spending money to take away nail clippers that you can buy 1 minute/100 feet after passing through security.

Each scanner machine costs 100-200K just to purchase and install. Add in repair, maintenance, and staffing and you could easily have 8 humans doing that job instead - and who can be retrained if situations change.

I don't think I'm that tightly wound. I've just found the buzz the last week, people howling about their rights & their privacy & fearing that someone's gonna touch their junk, completely overblown.

Why don't folks scream half this loud about our lack of port security, container shipments, unscreened US mail on passenger planes, etc.?

Many people do in fact scream about the lack of port security. But the networks and news channels think that a discussion about whether conservatives are stuffing the ballot box for Bristol Palin on Dancing with the Stars will get them better ratings so that's what is discussed on television instead. (I mean never mind that hostilities have resumed with North Korea, that was the big 'important' story on this morning's news cycle)

There's been much more noisy objections to the full body scans than the government's warrantless wiretaps?both of these intrusions were put in place, supposedly, to ?keep us safe.? It seems like most folks are more protective of their bodies than of their minds.
