We have DishNetwork (yeck) and I can't receive CBS. Long story.

Does anyone on 30A have an antenna that can receive the Dothan CBS station? If so, can you provide me details and how good the is the reception?

I'm using rabbit ears and can pick up only ch 13 (ABC in Panty Maw Shiitty). I have a feeling that the only way I could pick up Ch 7 or Ch4(Dothan), would be to get an external aerial antenna.

I don't know if it only works for HD, but I use the silver Zenith antenna from Circuit City (ZHDTV1) and the reception for Dothan is perfect in PW.

Have you contacted Dish? We have the same problem. Kurt Had mentioned something to me about calling them and asking for...I can't remember. And I don't watch enough TV to care!

Kurt- what was that you told me again?

I tried..dish refers you to another service that charges 5 bucks a month or some such for a channel such as Atl CBS if you are deemed to be outside the service area for the exterior ota antenna to receive the "local". I am near the west end of 30a my indoor antenna does nothing. I called Dish was referred to other service, called that service and was told I was I would have to get a special exemption from the Dothan affiliate to get another CBS. This company would do this for me but no guarantees on whether the affiliate would cooperate. It would take 30 days or better I was told. I was irritatated (and a bit whiny) and didn't pursue it any further. I'll post the number for the other company if I can find it. They were very friendly just ultimately unhelpful.

It's not Dish's fault in the broader scheme of things. They've got to comply with federal laws regarding giving local network channels preference over national feeds. And the feds have really tightened up regulation of that particular bit of law in recent years. Used to be that all you had to do was say you had problems getting a channel, and they could give you a waiver for the nationals on the spot, and now there's actual paperwork involved in getting waivers in place.

The local tv stations have the power here, and some just won't give waivers no matter how poor rteception is in an area, while other stations in the past have been willing to waiver entire zip codes (Thank you NBC and CBS out of Mobile! Who have given waivers to apparently all of Okaloosa County)

We went the route of requesting the exemption to no avail. The Dothan station denied our petition. My wife contacted their GM and was advised that he wouldn't allow it because of the lawsuit with Dish. Were going to look at their advertisers on that CBS station and contact them about our issue. Doubt it will change their mind. He suggested to antenna, but didn't offer to buy it for us.....go figure, ha.

I talked to the Radio Shack owner in SRB a few months ago and he said that unless I wanted to put up a 30 ft antenna, my chances were nill.

Currently, I watch CBS (primarily football) on my computer through TVU. Not great but beggers can't be choosers....

Because Dish didn't offer any local channels when we signed up, we have an outside aerial antenna. Love it.

Reception is not quite as clear as it is on Dish, but at least we can switch to the antenna and get storm warnings while it is raining.

Oh, yeah, and football. Though CBS only matters to me once or twice a year.
