Update on state dogfly program

You have a right to think what you like, as well as I do. Why do you think it strange that someone disagrees with you, and actually says so? You speak your mind, why shouldn't I? What, I'm supposed to keep my mouth shut? You call it arrogance, I call it authority. I believe we are on the top of the food chain, due the "grey matter" between our ears that seperates us from animals. We have great responsibilty to manage our land, and I take that seriously.

You may think that you have authority, but you have no authority. You don't gain authority by stating that you have it.

As for being at the top of the food chain, it sounds like you want to be, but the dog flies, mosquitos, deer flies, no-see-ums, are holding you back. Go into the wilderness of Montana, Alaska, or go swimming in the water around the Galapagos Islands and you will quickly discover that you were mistaken about being at the top of the food chain. If Man were at the top, he would have no need to kill tiny insects.

If you run for the Board, I will definitely be voting against you. How's that for speaking my mind? Do you still think that the FDA oversees the testing of pesticides (chemicals which have the primary purpose of killing)? You never did respond to that.

I never professed to be a politician, just concerned about my community. Whether you agree with me or not is your business. It is up to the voters as to what they want, and whatever they decide is fine with me. Yes, I have strong opinions, and I'm not afraid to speak them. I don't like to see people suffer because of some decision made by a board who isn't concerned enough to find all the information about the subject to make an informed decision.

So your idea of dominion over critters is death to them?

No need to answer, it's clear that when you speak of authority, you don't get it from the people by way of election, you get it from GOD! That's not arrogant at all. :roll:

There's an old saying, may as well tell the truth, people believe what they want to anyway! Seems irrelevant what I say, some individuals interpret it however they want. Whatever! You are bold enough to state your opinion; I have a right to do the same. I can't force you to agree; neither can you force me to agree. My wish is that you would at least get all the info before being rash, and unless you were either here before the Mosquito control was established, or know someone who was and actually believe their testimony, you don't have all the facts. I'm sure if you looked, you could find someone. It's a scary thought, that decisions involving the welfare of other people are made, or will be made, without knowing all the facts, or even a desire to know. That they don't care about the citizen's they are affecting, or causing to suffer.

Well actually....the yellow flies attacked the lawn tractor when my mother mowed this morning. Got her too. They like the heat and the vibration. Mosquitos are bad in Pt. Washington about sunset, probably because I live next door to a swamp. Haven't seen any dog flies yet...but they will come and you will detest them.

I am not for killing unnecessarily, however, mosquitos pose a dangerous health threat. Anything containing water (ie; flower pots, magnolia leaves) get rid of them or empty them....that helps. Also, if you are having a problem, call the mosquito commission to have them come to your home and evaluate the problem If there is a swamp or a ditch holding water they may be able to put those larvae eating fish in that body of water to kill mosquitos before they hatch. Eradicating them before they become a problem could help prevent the need to spray.

As far as the mosquito board making uninformed decisions as claimed by Floridagirl, I have to disagree. No matter what the commission wanted, it all came down to funding from the state....period.

Actually it was the commission's decision not to spray along with lower than normal dogfly counts over the last few years ,with little or no support from other counties as well. the state felt it was a seldom used program and that they were not getting enough complaint calls or calls of support and they had to make decisions on what budget cuts to make. so it was an easy decision for them. save money, less headaches, no more worries about old plane , chemical cost etc,etc . so the commission's decision not to spray in my opinion was just the straw to brake the camel's back. but the entomologists say they (think) the low dogfly counts were because of a few dryer than normal years and less farms for the flies to breed at. so we will just have to wait and see i for one hope their wrong or i hope the plastic bag and water works
