US screening 'risks Nigeria ties'

This article from the BBC says that the Nigerians and the Algerians are going to be pissed if we include them on the extra screening list.

I can't decide which part of the article I like better...

First, there is the image of the Lagos airport in Nigeria (note the name)

Or the quote that the measures discriminated against against Algerians, "who pose no particular risk to Americans"...

I'm sure I will all be bound up in some kind of post-colonial angst and lose a lot of sleep over this tonight.

Isn't the airport in the picture the one they always name on the signs warning people which airports have ineffective security?

I agree with the Nigerians though - their security officials took the bomber's father seriously and made sure he contacted US authorities about his concerns. There are other countries I would want given extra screening before Nigeria. Saudia Arabia is certainly one that springs to mind, but that isn't a good idea diplomatically - despite the fact that it borders Yemen, funds and protects terrorists, and most of the 9-11 hijackers were from there. :roll:

These are the flights/countries that are getting special attention:

Flights from Cuba, Iran, Sudan and Syria (countries classified by US as state sponsors of terror).

Also, flights from Afghanistan, Algeria, Iraq, Lebanon, Libya, Nigeria, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Somalia and Yemen.

Sudan, Libya and Algeria all share borders, so I find it odd Eritrea is not on the list since it borders Somalia and is one short boat ride away from Yemen.

Zebraspots, I think it's a great idea, diplomatically. I think we need to send strong messages, inclusive of Saudi among others!
