My hubby and I are thinking of vacationing in Lafayette, LA in May. We have been there one time before for around 10 days and had a great time. We enjoyed Avery Island and would go again, however, we did not visit the Tabasco factory on the same property but probably would this time.

We took a awesome airboat ride in Loreauville, and enjoyed the Swamp boat ride from McGee's Landing in Henderson, LA. We did go to Oak Alley Plantation and Shadows on the Teche. I am interested in taking a tour of many of the Plantation homes around that area.

I know there are several near the Jeanerette and Franklin areas as we had someone personally take us to the two I mentioned above. Wondering if anyone on here can recommend any others within an hour or a hour and a half of Lafayette. Skunky, don't know whether you are familiar with the plantation house tours or not.

I am looking for good lodging also in Lafayette, LA also that has a good reputation for clean rooms, good overall service for around $100 to $105 a night. We pay a lot of attention to user reviews. No Holiday Inn's either. The one in Mobile near Bellingrath was a nightmare.

We toured the Acadian Village in Lafayette and went to Cypremort Point State Park but didn't care for it. The brown sand beach thing we didn't care for nor did we care for the fact that bulldozers were coming down the beach smoothing out the sand right in front of where we were laying.

I enjoyed Delcambre which is the shrimp port down there. Loved seeing the shrimp boats. Any suggestions of other things to do or see would be great if anyone on this site is from that area. Thanks. :D

Well, maybe a little. But I don't know where all the plantation houses are. They are scattered all over between Franklin and Jeanerette. And who knows where else. I have only been there once. My husband knows his way around there because he lived there for 9 months many years ago working at a Blueprint Company down there.

I want to go back to St. Martinville and visit. It was nice in itself. I will just have to get out my Louisiana Tourism book and find more plantation homes and see where they are in relation to Lafayette. Thanks.

LadyD, you sound like the SW Louisiana authority to me. I grew up in the southeast. I know you are interested in ghosts, so I would strongly recommend you visit The Myrtles plantation in St. Francisville-it is a really nice little town that is perhaps 1.5 hours from Lafayette http://www.myrtlesplantation.com/.

As far as lodging, I don't know much about Lafayette, but Rapunzel and I stayed at this B&B in New Iberia, and she approved (she is very tough to please). It was clean, the food was good, and it is almost right across from Shadows. http://www.lerosier.com/

said he didn't like the idea of eating breakfast with people he didn't know

I have to ask LadyD, does he eat out at all. I mean every time one goes out to eat, you eat with people you don't know. :dunno:

I am sure Skunky can tell you more about the setup for this particular B/B but many have a dining room similar to any restaurant. Where breakfast is served during certain hours and you sit at your own table.

We have done the Plantation tours but I will have to look at my books and see if I can remember which ones we went to. We did go to the Myrtles I do remember that, as my daughter is into anything with ghosts.

We went to Dunleith, where some of North and South was filmed and Nottoway.

Here is a link to most all of them.

LadyD, that place we stayed in houses a restaurant which is open to the public. You just show up and they serve you-there is no specific time you need to present yourself and you don't need to sit at a table with strangers, it isn't any different than going out to eat someplace.
