We were in Las Vegas this past week and these commercials were running constantly on TV. I personally have not set foot in a WalMart in about 5 years, because of personal dealings on my end with their health insurance coverage and treatment of their employees.

What do y'all think about this? Do you shop at WalMart and why?

I try to avoid it like the plague. Pun intended. I briefly worked there for about 2 months. I can honestly say I have never been treated worse by an employer.

I shop there several times a year for the items I can't get anywhere else and also go there for the eye doctor who was recommended in the Pre-Sacred Heart Sandestin days.

Can't stand their business model, store size, crappy products, heavy influence in the economy, or what it does to local businesses that provide higher quality products and great service, so I shop there ONLY as a last resort.

Happily, as the area grows I find there are less and less items that can't be found somewhere else.

I go there for the Great Value basalmic vinegar. I also enjoy a stroll through the premises watching the patrons.....makes me feel skinny.

Me and some friends had a conversation about Wal-Mart the other day. We all agreed the longer you stay in there the better the crappy merchandise looks. We also agreed that there must be something they pump in the a/c vents to cause this phenomenon.

It's the same dynamic that happens drinking in a bar.

A few more weeks of posting and we can compile your full resume. That's at least the third place (maybe 4th) you have mentioned working.

I judge store by their scent as I walk into them.

I am a big fan of Saks and Macy's because of the blending of the cosmetics and better apparel dept. (real wool smells better than polyester). Target smell good too, a lot better during the X-mas season with all the scented merchandise thrown in.....

Wal Mart is NOT as good--the added smell of rubber tires and bad produce ruins the mix!

If I had to judge Publix by that measure, I'd never have groceries. That place smells like Ye Olde Holiday Whorehouse this time of year.

WalMart really is a terrible company...they exemplify the worst of this country, and capitalism in general. My reasons are pretty much the same as Beachbummett's. The people that make a living wage (I think there are about three per store) have 100% coverage. Everyone else has to buy their own insurance out of their paychecks, and it covers nothing. These poor people still get a huge bill, which they of course can't pay. The doctor ends up writing off the cost -- so, every doctor in this country is basically subsidizing Wal-Mart.

I do, however, really respect the leadership they have shown by introducing the $4 generic drug program. If the $4 drug formulary were used by everyone as a first resort, we'd no longer have a healthcare crisis in this country.
