Jay Odom is a wealthy developer, famous in the Sunshine State for being one of the biggest contributors to Republican candidates. He recently plead guilty to charges stemming from a political contribution to former presidential candidate Mike Huckabee. He has contributed thousands to most of Walton County's elected officials, including more than $6000 to superintendent Carlene Anderson's 2008 campaign. A few years ago, he and his pal, former house speaker Ray Sansom were indicted for attempting to steal $6,000,000 in public education funds to build a hangar at the Destin Airport for Odom's private jet, a Cessna Citation which has been used to transport political cronies. The charges were dropped but the judge did order Odom, Sansom and Richburg to pay back the money they had already stolen.
