If I remember correctly, J Odom donated some land for the Hammock Bay school. While he sold the land for the development it is to his credit that the land for the school was given to the future residents of the area.

If I remember correctly there were strings attached, if what was reported is correct. Supposedly there was a time frame that the school was to be built, if it wasn't property went back to Odom. Think the issue was is the loss of revenue on the property and the reversion clause. I could be wrong.

Is there anything that happens in Walton County to which strings are not attached?

But I didn't laud Mr Odom for his generosity. Just making note of some possible issues.

jp, what is you have against anybody making money and then expanding that wealth further? Evidently you know how to do it as your avatar shows a very nice aircraft which one would assume is yours. I don't care who the land belongs to now as it was probably purchased when it was worth much less. I do not see it as a "bribe" to conduct normal real estate business. Our system of economic operations is capitalism but somehow that seems to now have been forgotten by many.

I have nothing against capitalism. I've been a business owner and have always worked in the private business sector. I do, however, have a set of ethical standards that apparently is higher than that of the state of Florida. When a government entity does business such as the purchase of property or anything else it should be scrutinized by the appropriate authorities, especially when the likely seller is the largest single contributor to the campaign of the elected official who will make the decision.

As for airplanes, I've owned several over the last 43 years, all quite used, not that it's yours or anyone else's business.

Your points are well taken, however, in order for an individual to run for office in this nation, they need some financial help. I think that is regrettable but it is a fact of life. Some think all contributors automatically demand something in return. I do not think that is always the case.

You are right. I was making a point of being able to afford an aircraft, not knocking owning one. My 16 years flying one was quite enjoyable. It was the government's aircraft. I could never afford one of my own.

Of course Odom's Pleading guilty to a felony had nothing to do with political contributions did it?

For your information, I am no fan of Odom or any other campaign contributor. Your comment is completely of the subject at hand.
