It makes the most sense to have a way of allocating law enforcement and other emergency resources for special events in the region rather than having the host city try to go at it alone or use less well-trained rent-a-cops. You'll also get a area few firefighters who go up to work emergency medical services when NASCAR is at Talledega for the weekend. As long as staffing levels 'back home' are properly maintained, I'd see it as good & neighborly regional cooperation.

It will be reciprocated if there's a time Walton County needs that kind of external help.

Those firefighter who go to NASCAR are off duty and on vacation and are employed by NASCAR and not by their local departments.

Were Walton County Vehicles driven to Tally? Who paid for the milage and gas?

We must have $$$ to burn around here.

It sure seems that way.

When I retired the deputies reimbursed the office for gas and use of the car. I don't remember the figure but it was charged per hour. I guess they still do this. So the details do not cost the office very much at all.

It was like any other detail; Leon County had asked for assistance as TPD no longer works football games. Several of our guys were at the gates (hubby stopped and talked to two of them), letting the Leon County officers who were familiar with traffic patterns handle that. Since our Sheriff started his career in Tallahassee, he knows peeps and I'm sure he worked out the particulars.
And as a season ticket holder - it's a lot more fun to run around Doak Campbell in comfortable clothes rather than a polyester suit with a Kevlar vest and a 25 pound belt.

The money for the deputies ultimately comes from the boosters. The LCSO doesn't just provide officers and other counties officers for free.
