There are often beagles and beagle mixes at Walton County Animal Shelter where a group of volunteers work tirelessly to try to find homes for the wonderful animals there. The volunteers can often tell you about a dog's temperament and personality because they spend time with them. You can call the shelter to see if they have any and it's the best bargain around, $55 for a fully vetted pet. 850-892-8686. Here's a link to a beagle mix that is on their facebook page http://preview.tinyurl.com/mzvt2nfFrom the facebook page you can contact the volunteers for more information about any of the animals you're curious about.
You've probably researched this, but when our boys were little (one 5, the other 3), I asked a friend (who was a vet) which breed we should get & she immediately said, a beagle because beagles won't bite. We followed her advice & had the sweetest dog that has ever lived. Do get a beagle! I agree that you should try to rescue one as it's a win for everyone.
My wife does volunteer work at Alaqua. She says there is one there now that recently arrived at Alaqua. It is currently in quarantine (that's routine with new dogs), but since it has checked out fine, should be out of quarantine any day now. Even while it is in quarantine, you can still go up tomorrow (or whenever) and have a look at it.
The Beagle at Alaqua goes by the name of Buford. He's a darling .. great temperament, walks well on a leash, an overall friendly and loving dog. <img src="http://www.sowal.com/bb/attachment.php?attachmentid=34891"/>
We received the call from Alaqua our application has been approved and we are going to be adopting Buford!!!
We are elated, and can't wait to pick him up. Unfortunantely he is having some health issues, quarantined for heart worms, and it could be weeks before he joins our family. We will have weekly visits so he can become familar with us and we can't wait to give him the happy home he deserves. Film at eleven....
Thanks you SoWal, Lois, and Alaqua for making this a happy ending for all.
