The other thing is, I dont care to discuss politics and current events with them because chances are they will hit me with some crazy conspiracy theory. Everything is fake news blah, blah, blah, and they can't shut up about Hillary. Eff em.

That is the point. When you try to talk to them in a reasonable way, they inevitably state misinformation and/or conspiracy theories that are ingrained in their brains. Benghazi...Hillary's emails...etc. It quickly becomes obvious your conversation starts to turn into an "intervention", because we are not even starting with the same set of "facts".

In fairness, I don't think 5 million more Democrats decided to vote Biden over Trump. I think more independent voters decided to vote Biden over Trump. Wikipedia is source of numbers as as attached.

Ya'll just kidding right? Over 70 million people voted for Donald Trump. We are very lucky that 5 million more democrats voted Biden. If you are so disconnected from society that you have to believe that all 70 million are "idiots and losers" then I just don't get it. Ya'll need to get out more and engage with people to find out why they voted for Trump. Many are tired of being called redneck, idiot, ignorant, loser and much worse. Many others have fear of social change. Others have fear of lazy democrats who would rather live off the government instead of being productive. Many many others have fear of economic collapse from social policies and more taxes. Most of them have fear of the collapse of the family unit, banning prayer from our schools, acceptance of religions other than Christianity, loss of cultural values, loss of identity and becoming a minority. African Americans like Dave Chappelle, Daryl Davis and Herschel Walker understand Trump supporters better than you. Come on. Know your opponent then engage in a respectful way. It is real ignorance that does not understand why so many people vote for Donald Trump. The more you disrespect them the more they will vote for people like Donald Trump. The stronger their fears of the above the more they will vote for people like Donald Trump. We have to engage with them, respect them and calmly point out their fallacies. I swear if democrats simply withdraw because they are too frustrated, too irritated and too lazy to engage with a Trump supporter then what does your intelligence tell you about that for future elections? Come on this is only one battle for the soul of this Country. Get out there and engage with people. Don't use the excuse that you don't have any friends that are Trump supporters or know of any. They are all around you! I know you don't like this but get over it and be an active, respectful, engaging democrat...

I do understand. However this battle for the soul of our Country is not over. We have to build a bridge otherwise the republican river will grow as it did in this election. Trump may be defeated but he will not go away. His supporters will not go away unless we find a way to connect to them. You can throw out polling as an indicator of elections. You can throw out superior intellect or morality as reasoning. Democrats are going to have to find a way to connect with rural and suburban America on policy and their fears of social change. People are moving out of cities and into rural and suburban America. This migration is what the republicans are counting on. Don't be mislead by this one election. We will have to bring up politics in conversations and risk the conspiracies, the fallacies and even laughter to explain why we need social programs, equality and fairness, taxes on those who can afford it, conservation of resources, higher minimum wage, less carbon emission, etc. Yes you and I will have to wade into the pit of vipers and be calm, cool and smart with an understanding that they do not want us there. Or we can let a Donald Trump character happen all over again. I say that change needs to happen on both sides. Believe it or don't...

Bob Wells is correct. It was not 5 million more democrats voting for Biden. Republican and Democrats both turned out more votes than ever and they are split almost 50/50. Those 5 million people are independents who live in the cities. They may all move out of the city in the next 2 years!

I really do understand that it is much easier to type on this forum than to engage with a Trump supporter but I do it almost every day. It is unbelievably frustrating! I actually may need therapy to try and understand them better :)

It just ain't going to happen. They are able to justify voting for Donald Trump in their minds and their soul. The arguments being used to persuade trump supporters is not working. You and I will have to find a way to get over our frustration and work to keep them engaged in values that you share with them. How about starting with kindness which is the opposite of Donald Trump. Just ask them what they like about Trump. The key is to listen. Follow up with what do you dislike about Biden. Find some common ground in the first conversation. In following conversations they might listen to you...or not but at least it does not hurt your chances. Hey it is up to democrats to learn how to engage with people. The Democratic Party even understands this. They have admitted that Republicans do a better job at knocking on doors!
