This is definitely not my dad’s Republican Party.
My father, who died in 1974, was a lifelong Republican, Christian, and part time preacher.
After his retirement from the city of Memphis he worked with my aunt in her specialty advertising business selling pens, combs, calendars, ashtrays etc to businesses printed with their logos and company names.
One day he called on a midtown drag bar and feel in love with the owners and employees and they gave him their business.
I still have this dish from those days.

My brother, also a republican, would often take his girlfriends to George’s for the popular shows.
Both my parents were deeply Christian republicans. I never once heard them judge a person because of their skin color or their lifestyle.
Seriously, WTF happened to republicans?

Republicans are seriously afraid of change! Afraid that someone wants want they have and big government does not help them keep what they feel they earned. They are afraid of burning in hell. Ironic huh? They only want to live with one truth which they believe is God and anything else is not tolerated. Not many of us are unbiased, unprejudiced and non-judgemental so all they see coming from the democrats is hypocrisy. Ironic again huh? Republicans are the same people that your parents are but fear and anger are strong emotions which the Republican Party has spent trillions on promoting. It worked...

America is a completely divided country. Common sense solutions for issues are no longer possible. Moderate is not acceptable. This goes for both sides of the divide. There is too much anger and too much fear! We the people have let politics do this to us. I see it here on this forum. I see it within my family. I see it in every community I read about or a part of. I see it within myself. Anger and fear are not necessary in our discussions and debates but we have allowed it. We humans thrive on it for all the wrong reasons. My opinion is that if we don't find a way to manage our emotions better then we get what we deserve. If I can't treat another human like I want to be treated no matter who they are then I am to blame. Not Trump. Not Biden. Not politics. This is a choice. Justifications for anger and fear are not worthy of the great miracle of life...

Stop the both siderism. There is only one party calling for a divided country, supporting white nationalism, with a former president who promoted violence and is right now calling for more violence.
If you aren’t angry then get angry.

It's easier to be timid old man and say it's both sides. You see how effective that's been. Perhaps the male Susan Collins should really examine his posts.

I like mputnal and his/her posts but now is not the time to be neutral. Choose a side.
Kevin, 15 votes, McCarthy signaled today he wants Republican committees to interfere/tamper with the Trump investigations.

I disagree with you. Anger is an emotion that causes destructive human behavior as it engages a very small portion of your brain. Anger will take you quickly to hatred. If we don't have tools to manage anger it will control us not the other way around. You probably do not get out a lot and have face to face conversations with republicans. I do. They are just as angry as you. So what is the point of anger? Two sides that have anger and hatred. So now what? Fight it out? Okay I am ready to fight face to face. Destroy my relationships with people because of my politics. Is that the answer? My wife says I thrive on conflict and to be honest she is right. I can justify anger just like you for motivation. I am over 65 and have learned a few things about people. We all make mistakes. Yes what the republican party is doing to democracy is destructive. Yes what the democratic party is doing to our social structure is confusing (to me). I would love to debate that further but my point is neither party is representing a majority of the American people. We are divided. Throw in anger and hatred and whether you like it or not conflict will happen with destructive consequences. I am always ready for a conflict as I am very good at using anger to justify my actions. It is like shooting from the hip. I am really very good at it. That said I know there are better ways to resolve conflict. Here is a bit of advice that someone gave me a long time ago "don't get angry...get even". You will have to engage the larger portion of your brain for that advice :)

No it is not easy to say it's both sides. Trust me. We are living in a Country that requires you to take a side. I really don't like the two party system of politics. Neither side represents me as a moderate. That said only one party seems to more interested in trying to represent all of us even if it feels like they forget about us and only focus on minorities and other marginalized groups. I believe that "woke" is good even though I do not fully understand where it will take us. I also believe that working hard in this life is important. Sitting around taking shots at groups and individuals not so good...

When a state takeover of public schools in Houston — America’s fourth-largest city, and the biggest in Texas — was announced last week by state education officials under Republican Gov. Greg Abbott, the national media mostly treated it as a local story not worthy of much coverage in a nation now transfixed by the potential arrest of POTUS 45.

But what’s going down in Houston should be a much bigger deal, for two reasons.

First of all, the move is outrageous. Despite facing the same struggles as most large urban school districts around poverty and disinvestment, topped by the double whammy of COVID-19 and the natural disaster of Hurricane Harvey, Houston schools have been improving under metrics set by the state. Even the one “failing high school” cited by the Texas Education Agency for its takeover — which will allow the GOP administration to supersede the elected school board and appoint its own superintendent — has raised its grade to a passing “C.”

No wonder most local leaders in the Gulf Coast metropolis think this move by Abbott’s minions has little to do with what’s best for Houston’s 195,000 public schoolkids — 62% Latino and 22% Black — and everything to do with the grown-up politics of punishing a city now run by people of color who vote mostly Democratic, as well as giving Team Abbott a new venue to wage the GOP’s war on what they call “woke education.”

The commonwealth (ky) has been targeting Louisville's school system for some time. (There are 120 counties in the state with most having only one high school and very white.) They now threaten to divide the the system into several districts. Reminder that the commonwealth voters (not Louisville voters) have elected McMitch, Randy, Massie, etc. Ellen
