So, do all the women in Wewa wear floral dresses and have "big hair"? Is there a Super Walmart near?

Good luck & bless you both. I think you'll love it there.

Posting from Wewa where we finally got our "country cable" and can once again communicate online! You can't imagine my relief...

Quick recap of the last two weeks...

Our departure on May 22 did not happen as planned, but it all turned out okay. When you have all of your possessions sprawled out all over the driveway awaiting entrance to a 26-foot UHAUL and a group of people looking to you to tell them where to put it, you quickly realize that leaving the next day just isn't going to happen. We scrapped the plan to leave on the morning of the 22nd and decided to leave at midnight the 23rd. We also realized that that was not going to happen as we were still loading the last of our belongings at our appointed departure hour. We did wrap up around midnight, slept for a couple of hours and then with Mr. Lucky in the UHAUL towing our minivan (which was packed to capacity) and me in the car (with just enough room to drive and stow away our fish) we hit the road at 3:30 a.m. on Friday.

To make a long story short, 15 hours later we pulled into our driveway. We had a meal and then more people showed up to empty our truck. By 11 p.m. we were in the house and free to rest.

We have received a very warm welcome from our church (and the weather!) and are still working to settle in and transfer life in Illinois to life here, but things are going well. However, if we move again, I have vowed to either torch it all and start fresh or spend the money to hire movers.

Romeo, thanks for the suggestions! We are still learning about life in Wewa. It is a small town but I do like it. There's good and about about anywhere and although Wewa is "special" in some areas, I think we'll really enjoy our time here. We missed the honey festival but I'm sure there are other local festivities we're just in time to enjoy.

We've been to a high school football game already (exhibition game) as well as graduation. I'm pretty sure we saw the whole town at graduation :D We've spent some time in the homes of some of our church members and we're meeting other people as we are out and about. There's a definite charm to moving to a smaller community, but I know it can have its downside, too. For now we are just enjoying meeting everyone and exploring our surroundings.

So far, so good! Now we have to make it to the beach!

Thanks for your thoughts and prayers for our journey down here
Remember this about small towns and communities, everybody is related to each other!!! Blood is lots thicker than water and even if they haven't spoken to each other for 50 years, you better not say diddly about them.(not that I think you would)
that said , I  small towns and have never lived anywhere else except for a few short years way back when..

I know, but I will empathize with you!

I've seen no floral dresses and as for big hair, I could trump anyone with all of this humidity! There is a Super Wal-mart in Callaway, about 20 minutes away. Not too far, not too close.

I will be careful! The church we came from was the same way - many people were related. Most of the church, in fact. We like the fact, though, that all of the people aren't necessarily originally from Wewa - there are transplants.

Lucky, glad you made it safely. I've been waiting to read your report--sounds like you're gonna fit in just fine and probably make many life long friends.

Come on over to sowal this weekend! I'm heading down in the morning so I can see the Pods on Saturday and Sunday. So happy y'all are safe and sound!
