I can't remember just one great summer memory, they were all great!

Summer was the best! Playing in the lake, waterskiing, tubing, swim team, biking, canoeing, slip in slides in the backyard, visiting relatives, fishing, baseball, tennis, rollerskating, afternoon movies when it was really hot (the theatre had AC and we didn't)..........

When my Dad would bring home a huge roll of plastic from the paper mill and we'd spread it out in the front yard and turn on the hose. All the neighbor kids would come and slip and slide across the yard...big fun!

Slip n slides are probably illegal now. We loved them and spent hours/days playing on them when it was really hot!

The summer of 2003, our first summer after building the beach house. Life was perfect for us then for so many, many reasons. My entire family was there (me, cnestg8r, our daughter, Mom was well enough to be there, my sister and bro-in-law and two sons, and my brother and sister-in-law and three sons). The only time we've ever all been together in one place. We spent all day outside -- at the beach, going to the pool to literally chill out, taking a quick lunch break, and then back out. Every other night our daughter would whip up fabulous dinners for us that she'd make up with no recipe, and on alternate nights we'd go out. While the boys fished on the beach, we'd ride bikes to Deer Lake State Park. During that week my youngest nephew had a birthday, and since he had caught a shark that week, our daughter made him a shark birthday cake for his birthday party. So many wonderful memories of us all being together. I'll never forget it.

Would y'all believe we even had slip n slides back when I was a kid? I bet y'all thought they hadn't even invented plastic back then.

Blueberry picking in Maine when I was a kid. We'd have a cottage on Lake Damariscotta and my grandparents were always there and my cousins, too. Everyone waxes nostalgic about the "good ole days" but those days I spent in August in Maine were the real thing.

Playing "kick-the-can" with my brother, and sisters and all the neighborhood kids. Spending summers with my Aunt, and the closest thing we had to a pool was a galvanized steal wash tub that my aunt would fill up with water and Kelly and I would play in that thing for hours. Asking mom, if we could "Get Wet", meaning, "could we go play in with the water hoses". Going to the drive-in movies and eating really bad bar-b-que sandwiches that they served. As I got older, my memories turned to the beach and every summer since I was 17 has been spent on the beach. So many treasured memories.....

Getting in our boat on Choctawhatchee Bay, (which was small for a family of seven), leaving with a small flotilla of other Air Force families, and bouncing through the pass at Destin. Pulling up to "the spit", which is now covered with buildings, but was just a sandbar/barrier island back then. Swimming and fishing all day, then cook-outs on the beach. Heading back before dark and watching the dolphins swimming in the wakes of the boats. Learning how to swim in Choctaw. Bay, and rescuing a beached baby dolphin. Picking up large shards of Weeden Island pottery. Only hearing the sounds of summer nights before the sounds of air conditioners intruded on it all. LIfe was so simple and what a place to be a kid!
