1) people are so obsessed with celebrity they wouldn't leave him alone
2) because he took pills

Sad that even though he's dead, people still won't leave him alone.

Scooterbug, celebrity alone is not a death sentence! The pills, however, are a different story entirely.

I think some people simply aren't detined to stay with us long. It's often been said--was in a poem maybe?--that some flames burn with such intensity that they can't sustain themselves. Lots of creative geniuses throughout history have died young; there's nothing new about that. And they've done it with the public eye trained upon them even as they've breathed their last. That too is nothing new. We're just better at it than our forebears thanks to technology.

Well said, Mermaid. Look at Paul McCartney, other than a wrong choice in the second marriage, seems he has managed relatively well for a long time, and my goodness no was more famous than the Beatles.

I do think that European countries, except for poor Princess Di, are more accepting of the celebrity and do not hound them to death.

I had the privilege of meeting Elvis at a private function and I don't think I have ever met a sadder, more lonely person even in a room of people.
