Sooner or later, we get them all up here. They are pretty to look at, usually a pain to work for. Somehow, Mr. Conch Out and I end up as the token locals at some of the fancy parties. Once I had to stop the husband from crowding an old man out of the buffet line. Husband said that old guy sitting on the edge of the fountain looked like Kirk Douglas. I had to tell husband to stand back, that that was Kirk Douglas and that he was recovering from a stroke.

I sat next to Robert Redford last year at an outdoor brunch, so full unforgiving sunlight. He had obviously just had a full facial laser treatment, quite rosy. He's had a lot of sun damage, however, and that treatment can also be a good preventative for later skin cancer. He seemed very natural, intelligent, and shy. He's much smaller and slighter in build than he appears in films, only about 5'7" tall, I would say. Gorgeous hair. Aside from work in films, he is an accomplished artist.

He told this funny story. I was trying to think of something to say that didn't involve his celebrity, so I thanked him for his work on behalf of the environment. He laughed and said that he was once invited to address over a hundred very important business people. After talking for 30 minutes or so about critical environmental issues, he asked if there were any questions. No hands up. Finally, one in the back. He called on the man, who stood and said, "I just have one question. Did you really jump off that cliff in 'Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid'?" Ka-boom!

Great story, Donna (&Robert). I had no idea he was of a slight stature. Yes, he's always had gorgeous hair. I watched "The Way We Were" last week and the show commented that in his contract for the movie, he refused to cut his hair for the scenes when he was in the military. Don't blame him--great hair.
