What Happened to Teacher Raises?

I was watching the News at 6 and the report is that Walton County Teachers won't be getting the raises promised by Gov. Scott. The financial officer of the school district made the statement: "We have no money". Maybe the TDC isn't the only agency that needs an audit.

I saw a stat today that less than 50% of public school district employees in America are teachers. That might explain part of it.

I'm a professor. We all got a pay cut in about 2008 -- no money available for merit pay. So no point in busting your butt to earn merit pay. We also had our health insurance premiums go up and had to pay a larger percentage of the premium for this insurance. Oh, and the former employer match for retirement funds went bye-bye. So we've been having negative raises for some time. We will get a small raise in the upcoming contract, but in no way will that make up for the cuts.

How can they not have the money if it was specifically set aside for this????

How much did they spend on the football field? I forgot. I do recall that it was a chunk of change!

I thought this was a done deal a long time ago. They were supposed to get $2,500 each or something like that. Rick Scott was high fiving everyone in sight proclaiming victory for teachers statewide.

My daughter is at ECMS and her teachers are awesome so I sure hope they get what they were supposed to.
