You lost the audience when you projected this statement "You believe that morality is arbitrary, that the means justifies the ends. I never said or implied that. Morality is a result of our brain's convergence due to evolution. It settles on what's best for the species survival, otherwise the species would die off. Sociopaths do not thrive. I can't say I know a single one of them personally. Natural selection would not permit sociopaths to survive [to dominate]. They would end up killing each other off. I do believe that behavioral therapy and medication can keep them in line sometimes. One form of behavioral therapy is religious indoctrination. You may now return to your original programming.

If there were a limited number per capita, as there is, they would thrive, as they have. Full blown sociopath is different than displaying sociopathic tendencies, which is basically a functioning sociopath, but we are getting off topic.

That's not arbitrary?

Why does religion have to creep its way into every conversation?

If I was a Muslim and I interjected Allah into every issue and quoted the Koran wouldn't it seem out of place?
No, and in fairness, though you may disagree, it is the right and privilege of all to quote religion if they wish. Somehow, many seem to forget that our nation was founded on Judeo-Christian principles and that also means that other religions are also entitled to their say if they so desire. I am not religious in the traditional sense but I understand the right of all to equate religious beliefs to our every day living. To do less is greedy, in a philosophical way.

help me out here

Think of a giraffe's neck. Darwin speculated that the food was most abundant and the "market" less competitive for for herbivores at the top of trees, so the giraffes with the longest necks survived and were the most desirable for mating until the trait was ingrained.

I still don't get how an empathetic trait evolved when, while it may help the survival of the species, it hurts the survival of the individual.

Where to start?

how bout right here.

"morality is the result of our brain's convergence due to evolution"

expound on the relation to morality and evolution and how evolution produces morality? And what does "our brain's converging mean?
