BR, just make sure you go with a company that has a good reputation and history in your area. When this happened to us a few years ago a bunch of fly by night contractors showed up like the dent shops you mentioned.
Thanks for the advice. We have decided that all of the dent shops that have ascended into town like buzzards are not to be trusted. We're going to patiently wait our turn for an appointment with a local company that has done work for us before, and that way if we're dissatisfied, we have someone local to yell at (as opposed to someone in a trailer who has lost since left town).Ocean Lover said:BR, just make sure you go with a company that has a good reputation and history in your area. Smiling JOe said:Landlocked, were you living in Montgomery back around 1987/88 when the big hail storm came through? The size of the hail was slightly smaller than a baseball and it dented the hood and tops of most every car in Montgomery, including all of the cars on the auto lots, and it broke many windshields. The hail punctured many roofs, and I seem to recall it killing or badly injuring a couple of people who were out and about, not able to find shelter. It was really bad. After the storm, I picked up a hunk of hail and through it against a brick wall as hard as I could. It did nothing. That is some extremely dense ice.
BR, hope your damage is not too extreme.
I was in that storm too, and suffered a golf ball effect to the hood and roof of my car. I fortunately, did not have broken windows. I remember every car dealer in town having dented sales. It was somewhat funny. I think my car finally got repaired after about four months. The body shops were very backed up.Beach Runner said:LL, after your hail storm experience, you know how frustrating it is to deal with getting someone to give you a decent quote so you can file a claim and get some money. And then I'm sure everyone will be backed up on actually doing the work - that is, except for those fly-by-night dent people. We're actually on a waiting list to get on a waiting list for a local body shop. We'd have more luck playing pick-up-sticks with our butt cheeks than getting this all handled in a timely and fair manner! (Trivia question: what movie is that from?)
So, I can't even IMAGINE how awful it would be to have devasting damage after a hurricane. This is just a minor annoyance in comparison.
