We will be down in Grayton Beach the first week of August. We were down last year in September when most everything (except Red's!) was closed down for the season. We love the fact that it is a non touristy area. What are some things that we should do while we are in for the week? We would like to kayak and fish from the beach.

If we fish from the beach, what bait would be recommended and what could we expect to catch?

Any ideas of cost of kayak rental and from where?

Your in for a shock....grayton is a touristy area in August...not so much in September.

Use live shrimp or live sand fleas for surf fishing............hope you catch lots of fish. Kayaking Western Lake is a blast and you can fish for redfish in the lake off of your kayak.

Get on a bike and you can get anywhere you want and check out lots of stuff.

Best of all, relax and enjoy!

I don't know anything about bait but walk to breakfast at Hibisscus and walk to dinner at Borago, Red Bar and D&K's. That pretty much is a great week! Oh yea, walk to the beach! :D

"Busy" is relative. I cannot think of anything in SoWal which is closed for September, however, several places may close on Mon or Tues, year round.

What to do in Grayton? There is plenty of activity, but the best thing to do is absolutely nothing, and it can be very enjoyable when you forget about wanting to do anything. Just listen to the waves, feel the breeze, and enjoy the moment.

Kayak Rental -- call John or Lynn at Yellowfin Sports in Seagrove, or Big Daddy's Bike Rentals in Blue Mtn Beach.

We will do much relaxing, but we would like to get to know the area better. Plus, we have 6 kids - there is no such thing as relaxing for any length of time. Maybe the places weren't closed but had off season hours.

Also, the beach cam is not working. Was there something to knock it offline last night? Can one of you run out and fix it? That is how I get my beach fix, while I am sitting in my cubicle on the 9th floor in the middle of the city with no beach for hundreds of miles!!!

maybe there were more UFO sightings last night and the men in the black SUVs blacked out the beach cam signal.
