I'm always up for a trip to Tally - except last Saturday.

I am a bit more on my guard in Tallahassee than I am here, except on campus itself during a tailgate or something.

Several years ago, my elderly aunt did get her purse snatched after filling up her car at a service station on North Monroe, near I-10. She tried to beat the hell out of him first, and he finally grabbed the purse so hard she ended up needing stitches in her fingers. But, he got caught.

Then, there are the "major" crime stories (TB, for example). The prospect of thousands of young, pretty ladies does tend to attract creeps. But that could happen in any college town, even Hogtown.

Simply put - take the same precautions in Tally that you do in Panama City, and you will be fine.

this brings back such good memories. We lived in Tallahassee when my son was growing up, and the "Junior Museum" as it was called then, was his backyard. We spent hours there; me reading a book while he and his friend Jason explored. It was a wonderfully safe place to let two little boys feel as though they on a great adventure "all alone. "

It has expanded since those days and has many more animal exhibits, making it an even more interesting place place to visit. As the boys grew up and could really be left alone to explore, I used to spend a lot of my visit shooting pictures of the cypress trees...the peacefulness and serenity is intoxicating. Go Enjoy!

Ah canopy roads, I can still remember flying along those at 70 mph in a Lincoln Town Car we had "borrowed" from a friends parents once night.

I would like to know what are you driving now, so I can be on the look out.

I know it sounds odd, but the Cemetary is located between Park and Call St. it's kind of interesting to view some of the monuments, some of them are full crypts.

I like the idea of the Cemetary. I love Cemetaries.:D

as my son awaits a decision from FSU, i'm trembling here. Seriously, it really can't be that bad, right?

Your biggest worry would be binge drinking - as a boy he's pretty safe. Remember that our definition of a high crime area is when we need to lock a car or house. Coming from Chicago, he'll be just fine!

Stop trembling. He'll be fine. If he can survive the Chicago burbs he can survive Tallahassee no problem.

I do remember a spike in reported rapes in the early 90's, but that turned out to be a fraternity that has been permanently banned from campus. Again not an issue for your son.

I enjoy the discount my insurance gives me for being a safe driver. I've really mellowed since I moved out here.

Unfortunately the cememtary has a lot of vandalism due to it's location relative to fraternity row. They have since moved all the Fraternities to a "compoun" near the airport.

Oh yeah that's it, ease her concerns by mentioning binge drinking.

Not to worry...my nephew and niece both graduated FSU...they lived there for two years; nephew still lives and works in Tallahassee. One needs to be careful as in any place, but over all Tallahassee is as safe as any other place, and much safer than some.:D

The cemetery actually sounds like a cool idea. I've always wanted to visit them in Europe but hey, Tallahassee, Europe, same thing, right? :D

Nothing prior to about 1813, but basically the same. Although Tallahassee has a suprisingly high number of above ground crypts.
