My husband went on Weight Watchers. He was starting to get that "businessman's roll" around his middle from too much travelling and eating out! WW is not trendy or glamorous but (and this is a big BUT) you can go on the plan and still have your cocktail when you come home at night. It's not difficult to keep track of what you eat and their cookbooks and meal plans are very good. My husband lost more than 20 pounds without any trouble at all.

Thank you, and Happy Birthday!

I also did Weight Watchers. Started in Jan. of this year. I lost 38 lbs. It wasn't hard to stick to either.

I started on South Beach in January, as of today I have lost 42 lbs. I just used the principles of eating low carb. No sugar, white flour, potatoes, white rice. I have never felt better in my life. I have changed my whole lifestyle and will never go back to the carboholic that I was!!!!! I walk 2 miles a night because I have so much more energy now. The best thing I ever did for me!!!
Congrats Kathy! That is great. I am going to share this with my Mom. She had a little heart scare and got sent to the cardiologist. Everything is fine but he told her to get this book and follow the maintenance part...and she has lost 8 lbs in a couple of weeks and feels a lot better too. He told her the only thing he had against the book is that he didn't write it himself. She was a junk food, hot dog-loving junkie and has done well on it. I read it with her and thought it was very interesting.

This is gonna sound dumb...
Eat sensibly, and in moderation (hard if you love food like me). Easy on the red meat & starchies, plenty of veggies (fresh or frozen, not that canned gaha), salad, fresh fruit. Avoid fried stuff like the plague (save for rare treats).
Exercise. Doesn't take much. 3-4 times/week at a min. Walking's fine - maybe 1 or 2 miles, a few pushups, situps, whatever, even a lousy 5min worth before a walk does wonders. That's a total of, what, maybe 15-18min total time 3-4 days a week. Hardly anything.

5'11", was pushing 190, 6 weeks into that down to about 175...

Also, I find that work-related stress burns off the weight pretty quickly, though at the expense of other vital organs. ;-)

Thanks JR for starting this thread...I am so happy for everyone that has had such great success. I have been so fortunate to see my husband change his life after a little scare at the Dr.'s office a couple of months ago. REALITY CHECK! He is doing so well and I compliment him all the time! Lowered carbs...no processed food and walks in am and swims in pm! I am bringing my extra 10 down to the beach with me...NO EXCUSES!!! I just bought those MBT sneakers today for my aches and pains....what a trip! They are like EARTH SHOES (only my age peers will remember those!).Supposed to help strengthen and use deep muscles for stabilizing the core. Let you know!

My husband and I started South Beach this summer. We followed it religiously. The first 2 weeks he lost 13 pounds, and I gained a pound. The book says it helps you lose tummy fat. Well, I don't have tummy fat - it's all in my butt. So I think South Beach must be for people shaped like apples, not pears. I've given up on it.

I'm not heavy (5'10" and 150, size 10), but I prefer being really thin like I was for years (125 pounds) until I went through depression after my daughter going off to college. When I get below 125 (size 6), I look like a Holocaust victim. I just can't seem to take off any part of that extra 25 pounds. I hate that feeling when I'm walking and it seems like my butt is following about three feet behind me. LOL.

Dunno what to do. I'm discouraged.
