I was just curious if any of you SoWallers were aware of this musical artist and whether you you were into his music or King Crimson. The best, but inadequate, adjectives for Adrian/King Crimson would, perhaps, be avant garde and challenging. It isn't background music.

Adrian Belew is one of the most amazing and innovative gutarists out there. He has played in bands for Bowie, King Crimson, 9 Inch Nails, Talking Heads, and Zappa to name a few. He's definitey not a household name outside of the musician's world, but ask a musician about him, and they won't shut up!

I have two of the KC albums with him, all of his solo albums, and both Bears albums. He is amazing. I actually have seen him three different times with the Bears. They covered some of his solo stuff and did a couple KC songs, too.

I think Adidas in Heat has to be my favorite song by him...

I would go so far as to say that almost everybody has heard him play because he is so prolific in the music biz but would never have known it...

He did one of the best covers of the Beatles "I'm Down" that I've ever heard. The Bears did it, too, and it smoked!

SingingChicken: It's good to know there are like-minded souls out there. I've been listening to him since Lone Rhino and the King Crimson Discipline album. "I Am What I Am" off the Young Lions album and "Thela Hun Jinseet" off Discipline still remain amazing guitar work. Innovative, to say the least. I am amazed how prolific he has been and yet obscure. (Probably he likes it that way.)

I've heard of Adrian Belew. I have the album "In the Court of King Crimson" I don't think he plays on it though. I love the album cover so I feel I must post it here! Definitely avant garde and challenging as is the music.

That first King Crimson album, a true classic, came out about 1969. They didn't produce much else any good until they reformed in 1984 with the Discipline album. Adrian Belew was just the right guy to resurrect their new incarnation. (Robert Fripp was always the main guitarist and leader) Listen to the title track on Discipline and let me know if these two guys can pick.

Fripp may have always been the main guitarist, but KC assumed the Belew sound as soon as he touched the band. They certainly grew with him on board.

Yes, Belew and Fripp, are such an odd couple. His sense of humor is a great addition to the extremely dense and intense KC can go to. Some tracks are almost unlistenable, but others are just sublime. I like music that demands your attention.
