We, and the rest of the World, are already on our way there, thanks to Bush and the current Congress--with the nationalization, in part, of the US Banking sytem in recent weeks.

But what I am trying to weigh and understand right now are the pros and cons of Democratic Socialsm, why shouldn't the economy and society be run in a democratic socialist fashion?

Hey! Before you call me a dern Commie, I am still not convinced yet, but it never hurts to educate yourself. What Is Democratic Socialism?

All of the evidence is in Obama;s books...

Blair,

I use to fear these same issues. Then I started to thumb through and read his books thanks to my wife and discovered that many/most of the quotes are taken out of context. I am also probably one of the biggest closet conservatives you will ever meet.
My ideas and prejudice changed once I took the time to look at his books and understand the guy with a goofy name. I strongly feel he may just be our only hope. He may not be the best thing for me personally but maybe it is time for us to try to look past ourselves and into the future. “United We Stand, Divided We Fall”. As a country I feel we have been about I too long. This country needs to try a little WE.

I simply do not get this mentality, especially from those who earn over $250K. With the economy as weak as it is, many of those who earnings exceeded $250K are no longer doing such. I would much rather pay a lousy 3% plus more in taxes when businesses, especially industries that will benefit from the middle class having more income to spend, to see our economy humming along again. It's all cyclical. I'm tired of hearing people use the excuse that they will have to lay people off, because they are so concerned about waiting for the psychological, economic and political changes that will need to take place for this happen. I'm tired of people complaining about an increase in capital gains, when right now the markets are plummeting. Greed doesn't allow people to see the forest beyond the trees. Men like Warren Buffet have this foresight.

The stock market is about 5,000 points below where I WILL have to pay capital gains, so if the trade-off for improving our economy and actually making me HAVE capital gains is a couple tax points, I'm willing to pony up!

How does raising taxes help the economy? :dunno:
