Why Republicans make the rest of us miserable when they lose. - By Timothy Noah - Slate Magazine Out of power, they're bigger babies than Democrats. Here's why.
By Timothy NoahPosted Wednesday, May 13, 2009, at 6:38 PM ET
As a Democrat and longtime resident of Washington, D.C., I've always found the capital more congenial when my party was out of power. Partly that's because I make my living as a journalist. Republican presidents tend to create a more target-rich environment, not just for liberals but (I think) for everybody. Mostly, though, it's because Republicans out of power go out of their way to make life unpleasant for the rest of us. When Democrats lose, they're pathetic. When Republicans lose, they're bitter and mean.

Former Vice President Dick Cheney's enthusiastic bashing of the Obama administration?for making the United States vulnerable to terrorist attack (even though the last one happened on his watch); for running up the deficit (even though Cheney once told then-Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill that "Reagan proved that deficits don't matter"); for shaking hands with Hugo Ch?vez (even though Cheney's mentor, Don Rumsfeld, was once photographed shaking hands with Saddam Hussein); and for extending government bailouts beyond the financial industry (even though, four months earlier, Cheney had chewed out congressional Republicans for refusing to bail out the auto industry)?is a case in point. It's been noted widely that Al Gore raised some eyebrows when he gave a speech criticizing the Bush administration's rush to war against Iraq and its doctrine of pre-emption. But this occurred a year and eight months into Bush's first term. Cheney, by contrast, was out of the gate a mere two weeks after Obama was sworn in.

Yeah Republicans with the exception of Rush Limbaugh are addicted to power and nothing else. They suffer withdrawal when they run out of it. Democrats are too busy trying to live life and love it. They may have lots of addictions but power isn't one of them. Sometimes I wish it were because perhaps the country would be better off. They almost seem content to lose it and then moan about it, all they while enjoying the finer things in life like dijon mustard and unprotected sex with a diversity of strangers, often in combination!:rotfl:;-)

I don't think Cheney wants to be considered irrelevant now or after he is dead, historically. Cheney is now the new voice of the Repub. Party, along with Rush Limbaugh.

Meanwhile, Cheney prays for another attack to harm Americans so he will be able to feel good about himself and his place in History, in his mind---that is just not right!

If I were an intelligent, sensible Republican/Conservative I would be a little mift right about now about that...

I know one angry rep and he's just angry in general (I think he even had to take anger management classes, which might also qualify him as crazy). I know many angry dems.

Perhaps all politicians are sore losers?????

To say that any American, particularly a former Vice President, "prays for any other attack to harm Americans", is beyond the pale. Some have no idea what is like to lose a comrade through conditions over which they have no control. A little civility, please.

Sorry, maybe I went a bit too far there, I'm busted!

But I think it would make him feel like "his" dangerous policies were what kept Americans safe, and I really believe that is a sham.

I wouldn't say that he outright prays for it to happen, but I really do think that he would secretly be pleased - quite a sad commentary on his character/machinations IMO.

There are people who do wish harm on America for strange reasons.....well, to wish ills on anyone or any nation is strange. I knew a man who was a lender and stated, "If we have another terrorist attack, rates will drop." Can you believe that?

Needless to say, I never kept in touch with this person.

But, the thread is about sore losers and I do believe that politicians in general are sore losers.....and, if you can't take the option of losing, just switch parties! :D

You don't know anything about him except what you see on TV and you can make a drastic judgment of his character like that? This is sad.....:dunno:

No I don't think you're that far off. The neocons relish the moments when they can say "I told you so". The thing about terrorism is that it will never be completely eradicated. Some suicidal nuts will always find a way to wreak destruction, and some egocentric opportunist will find a way to lay blame on his opponent's policies at that moment.
